Man, you’re asking about one of the toughest aspects of following Hausa lit online. I track a few dozen stories across a couple of platforms like Turanci and Littattafai, and I’ve gotta say, the update schedules are wildly inconsistent. Some authors, especially the big names with publishing deals, can drop a new chapter weekly like clockwork. Others? They might vanish for months after posting a cliffhanger that leaves you screaming into your pillow.
There’s no central calendar or alert system, so it’s a proper grind. I’ve had the most luck checking the actual novel’s page on the publisher’s site every few days; email notifications from the platforms themselves are often delayed or don’t trigger at all. The bigger the fanbase shouting in the comments, the more pressure the author feels to stick to a schedule, honestly. Right now I’m waiting on the next part of 'Sarki da Banza' and the suspense is genuinely killing me.

As a reader who mostly sticks to completed works to avoid the agony, I occasionally dip into ongoing ones. My observation is that update frequency directly ties to how the writer is getting paid. Stories on ad-revenue share sites update more erratically—maybe a burst of three chapters in a week, then radio silence. If it’s on a subscription platform where readers use ‘passes’ to unlock chapters, the updates tend to be more predictable, often bi-weekly, to keep the cash flow steady.
It’s less about a universal ‘Hausa novel’ schedule and more about the business model behind each story. You can sometimes guess by the platform. A serial on Kano Online might be sporadic, while something on a dedicated app is trying for regularity. Still, ‘trying’ is the operative word; life gets in the way for these writers too.

From what I've seen, it’s chaos. Some update every Tuesday, others whenever they remember. You just have to follow the story page and refresh it constantly, or join a WhatsApp fan group where someone will shout when a new chapter drops. No rhyme or reason to it.

Honestly, the best results I've gotten have been from downloading the whole book from OkadaBooks, but you have to be careful which books you pick. Some publishers label older titles as 'latest' for months. I refresh the 'New Arrivals' on the Jiji Books app a lot too, but their selection isn't huge.
What really works for me is following the writers directly on Facebook, like Bilkisu Funtuwa or Hauwa Allahbura. They announce when their new stories are complete and ready, and they'll sometimes share a direct Google Drive link to the PDF. That's how I got 'Labarin Zuciyata' a week after the final chapter was posted online. You miss out on features like bookmarking, but you get the full story fast and for free, which is the main thing for me.
