This would be the one with the fox spirit and the twin infants, right? That is so cute. Print? I wouldn’t count on it. These webcomics are basically created as free labor. Authors are paid in moderation for webcomics in the form of ads and Patreon, but a print version of their work would demand so much more. In addition to the author, you would also have to pay a layout artist, a printing service, a shipping company, and people to deal with customers. That is not something that most webcomic authors could hope to afford. Some of the sweeter ones have been picked up by publishers from time to time, but that is very much the exception to the rule. Your best chance is probably for the author to make it as a passion project at some point. Until then, go read it online and recommend it to people.

In reverse order, ‘Fox’s Day Out’ is a beautifully simple and sweet little side story that reads perfectly as a one-off volume once you’ve read and fallen in love with the main series. However, as a first point of contact with the Fox world, it is a dismal, weightless read. I first attempted to read ‘Fox’s Day Out’ months ago and was utterly stumped and in the end bored by it after three chapters or so. The Fox in question simply went round with a bunch of babies and Fox’s observations of them were largely sort of random and not really all that sweet.
So learn from my mistake and save yourself the bland first impression. The side story is a complement to the main story, not an entry point. It’s a collection of pleasant artwork made even more pleasant because you already love these characters and understand their history. The main story is where you need to build your foundation – the pay-off for reading the fluff spin-off is so much sweeter.

Just as you would buy a manga volume, this comic is worth the investment. The emotional payoff, the amazing character development, and stunning twists are all best read in the best version possible of the work. The official translated work is the result of a lot of professional hard work to accurately and faithfully translate the work to the best of the creator’s ability to ensure that English speakers get the full and complete version of the comic that the creator had envisioned. Reading pirated work will only result in a watered down and dilute version of an already excellent comic.

Sean Wang wrote and drew this. One of the things I really like about the comic is its color language. Sean’s used color to signal mood and time of day really effectively. Warm yellows and oranges for snuggly indoorsy scenes. Cool blues for nighttimey quiety scenes. Bright primaries for fun outdoorsy adventures. It’s all decorative and it’s all narrative. It’s a really great example of how somebody of high craft can make a really fun and emotional story to read as well as a really fun and emotional and visual thing to look at. It’d be a great thing for aspiring artists to study in terms of how to use color to tell emotional stories in sequential art and how to apply color theory. It’s technically impressive and emotionally resonant.

From what I can gather, the magic system is left fairly unexplained and is instead revealed to us as we read. The magic that the babies possess seems to happen randomly and often unknowingly on their part. On occasion when they cry or laugh, there are random little events that occur such as flowers blooming or water rippling. The fox notices these things and stores them away in his vast knowledge of the kits. These instances of magic are merely plot breadcrumbs for us to follow. Later on in the plot when the family meets up with other magical beings, they seem to react to the aura of the children and this is how we discover that there is something special about them. Rather than reading a novel with a magic heavy plot, this one follows a family trying to make their way in a magical world and learning that the people you care about most can be the most powerful, as well as dangerous, things about you. The mystery is slowly revealed to us through environmental storytelling.

For this comic, I consider Lezhin to be the official host of the fandom, mostly because the comic is posted on Lezhin first, and thus most of the comic’s fan discussions take place in the comments on each chapter on Lezhin, as well as on subreddits/Discord servers dedicated to the comic. If you’re reading the comic officially, you get to read it at the same pace as everyone else, which is great for participating in weekly sessions of guessing and Speculation about upcoming storylines. All that anticipation and discussion between chapters of a modern serialized comic is half the fun, and you wouldn’t get to experience that if you were to read the comic on a pirate site and read it all at once.

Also worth mentioning is Hoopla Digital. It's a nice resource for libraries that subscribe to it, and it can be accessed with just a library card from a participating library. I've found a lot of obscure horror and independent comics on Hoopla. I'm not sure if 'Crossed' is even available on Hoopla (it varies wildly from library to library), but it's a good place to start looking for comics that you can read legally without purchasing them directly.
I searched through Kindle (Amazon’s bookstore) to purchase Crossed: Badlands, and it turns out the title I’m looking for is actually listed under Crossed: Badlands or Crossed: Wish You Were Here, both written by Simons and Drawn by Torres. I wouldn’t recommend buying these volumes individually because in all probability they will be rather expensive. However, Kindle does on occasion have sales on them. For now, I’ll also keep an eye on the web site of the publisher, because at times they have promotions on digital editions of all their books in bulk. Buying individual volumes this way is in no way recommended.
