Okay, so I was in the exact same boat trying to figure out 'Hybrid × Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia' reading order. It gets confusing because the light novel series was canceled, and there's also a manga adaptation that covers roughly the first four volumes.

The most straightforward path is to just read the original light novels from volume 1 onward. That's the main story. There are seven volumes published in Japanese. There's no official English translation, so you'd have to rely on fan translations, which typically cover up to volume 6 or 7, but completeness varies.

The manga, which started later, adapts the LN content but ends abruptly because, well, the source material got axed. Honestly, I'd skip the manga unless you're a completionist—the LN art is better, and the writing has that detailed world-building the manga had to cut. If you start with the anime, know it's a very condensed and rushed version that only covers the initial arcs, so you'd definitely want to go back to volume 1 of the novels anyway.

Stick to the light novel order, 1 to 7. The manga and anime don't offer a different or expanded order; they're just adaptations of that same sequence. The anime rushes the beginning, and the manga stops partway. The core experience is in the novels, even unfinished.

The reading order is actually pretty linear since it's a single, unfinished series. Start with the light novel volume 1. The manga adaptation by Kōki Yoshinari follows it closely for the first few volumes, so it's more of an alternative than a sequel or prequel. The anime adaptation from 2016 condenses the early plot but is notoriously rushed; it's not a good substitute.

I read the fan-translated LNs first and then checked out the manga out of curiosity. The manga art is decent but doesn't add anything new, and it stops even earlier than the novels did. So, LN first, exclusively. Finding all seven volumes might take some digging on aggregator sites, but they're out there.

Man, this one's a bit of a sad case. For 'Hybrid × Heart,' you really only have one primary source: the light novels. Just read volumes 1 through 7 in order. That's it. The manga is a straight adaptation that doesn't go beyond the LN plot, and the anime is... well, it exists, but it's not a great entry point. I tried watching the anime first and was so lost I had to restart with the books.

The fan translations I found were a bit spotty in quality past volume 4, but the early ones are solid. It's a shame the series got canceled; the last volume ends on a massive cliffhanger that will never be resolved, which is a huge bummer. So, temper your expectations going in.
