Honestly, my main spot is just the RWBY section on FanFiction.net sorted by favorites. It’s not elegant, but it surfaces the stories that have really resonated with people over time. You get a lot of the classic adventure AUs and ‘Ruby gets a different weapon’ scenarios that way. The app is clunky but usable for reading offline, which is a plus.
I check AO3 periodically, but the sheer volume of tags for some stories overwhelms me. I’ll see a Ruby Rose fic tagged with twenty different relationship dynamics and alternate universes, and I just nope out. Sometimes simpler is better, even if the filtering is worse. Discord servers for specific ships or artists are where the really fresh, sometimes unbeta’d stuff pops up first, though. It’s more like getting a sneak peek.

Archive of Our Own is basically the central hub at this point. The tagging system is so specific you can drill down to things like 'Ruby Rose & Weiss Schnee Friendship' or 'Ruby Rose-centric Hurt/Comfort' without wading through a mountain of unrelated pairings. I also find that the quality of writing there tends to be higher on average, maybe because the feedback culture is a bit more thoughtful. Tumblr is still weirdly essential for the super niche, hyper-specific AU ideas that writers just post as threads; you miss those if you only stick to the big archives. It’s more about catching vibes and inspiration there than finding polished epics.
I’d be remiss not to mention FanFiction.net, though. Its 'RWBY' section is massive, and for a character as central as Ruby, it’s got years of backlog. The search is a nightmare compared to AO3, but sometimes you stumble on an ancient, completed longfic that everyone else has forgotten about, and that’s its own kind of magic. The comment sections on those old fics can feel like little time capsules.

Don’t sleep on SpaceBattles and Sufficient Velocity forums. They have dedicated Creative Writing subforums where a lot of crossover and ‘rationalist’ takes on RWBY get posted. You find Ruby inserted into settings like ‘Worm’ or given wildly different power sets, with long, detailed discussion threads following each chapter. The tone is very different from traditional fanfic sites—more focused on plot mechanics and world-building debates than romance, which is a refreshing angle for Ruby-centric stories.

Esmeralda Cantari has spent her life being told she is a mistake.
The unwanted daughter of a powerful angel prince and a disgraced witch, she was cast aside by her father and barely tolerated by her mother’s coven. When her magic fails to appear like every other young mage’s, the coven finally exiles her for good.
But the night they drive her out, something awakens.
Blood answers her call. Wings of midnight blue and black tear free from her back. And suddenly the powerless girl everyone despised becomes something far more dangerous.
Returning to Rosewood Sanctum for her third year, Esmeralda must hide abilities that could make her a target in a school ruled by powerful bloodlines—including the half-siblings who have bullied her for years. Yet strange things are already happening around the academy. Students are disappearing. Bodies are found drained of blood. And rumors of ancient monsters once thought extinct begin to circulate.
The only people who seem to notice Esmeralda’s true potential are the most feared group of heirs at Rosewood: a shadow demon with dangerous curiosity, a brooding shifter whose beast reacts to her presence, a brilliant mage who feels he’s seen her before, a relentless fae warrior who sees her strength, and an angel prince who is watching her far too closely.
As the mystery deepens, Esmeralda begins to realize her awakening may not be a coincidence.
Something ancient is rising in the shadows of the supernatural world.
And it has already started hunting for her.
Billionaire CEO Tyson Evans is the alpha to River View pack. The largest and wealthiest wolf pack in Wisconsin and possibly the entire United States. He is a fair alpha, leading his people to prosperity with compassion and strength. However, his life is all about work and his pack. He’s lonely and looking for his fated mate to be his Luna. Many vie for and want the position, but Tyson won’t settle for a she-wolf who isn’t the one the Goddess gifted to him. But Tyson is running out of time. He is one of the oldest Alphas without a mate and the longer he goes without her, the closer he gets to turning feral.
Rose is a single mother, working multiple jobs to pay for her genius daughter, Maddie, to attend a special private school geared toward talented and brilliant children. It is incredibly expensive, and Rose struggles on a daily basis to make ends meet. But she is determined to do almost anything to make sure her daughter has a life that is better than Rose’s has been. And she’s determined to do it all on her own.
Rose knows nothing about the supernatural world around her. Will she accept being the fated mate to Tyson? Will Rose, as a human, struggle to accept the mysterious and dangerous world of shifters? Can Tyson and his wolf accept that Rose already has a child? One not of his blood? How will fate end up bringing them together? Are they strong enough to weather the challenges coming their way? Or will the struggle be too much, leading Rose to reject Tyson and their bond?
Read along and join in the discovery awaiting Tyson and Rose within the pages of The Alpha's Rose.
Spoiled Alpha's son, Caleb Grant, is shocked to discover his fated mate roaming lost and alone in the forest. She's human, and she's still a child. Confused and disappointed, Caleb is compelled to protect the vulnerable human, who assumes he's nothing more than a regular wolf. In this tale of fantasy and adventure, Caleb learns to appreciate that soulmates can be friends before they can become lovers, leading a double life as Alpha to the Lakewood pack, and Ruby's beloved pet, Storm. Tragedy forces them apart, and as Ruby reaches her 18th birthday, the time has come for Caleb to reveal his secret. Will Ruby accept the man as she did the wolf, or is their love doomed to fail?
Sandra, also known as Ruby, is a young women who meets a popular rock-star. She feels a strong connection with him even though she is engaged. As she progresses with both relationships her world is turned upside down. Both men in her life know the truth about who and what she really is.
Once the truth is revealed she is now forced to pick not only a lover, but a life style. One where she lives amongst the supernatural, and the other as a normal woman who knows the truth but can never involve herself in their affairs.
Which will she choose, and does she really have a choice in the matter as her role in all of this is bigger than she could imagine. Where does her heart belong, with her old life or her new one.
Ruby Colton is unlike any other Omega you’ve ever seen. She’s bold, sassy, and has the smarts to keep her alive. Though she has no single strength or power because of her small wolf, she’s hard working enough to make up for her flaws with her quick wits and bright brilliance.
Lucian Pierce, who is also known as the ‘Dark Devil’, has no place for troublemakers in his pack. But he contradicts this rule of his by himself when he usurps the Blue Sky pack where Ruby is from and gives the sly troublemaker a place in his pack.
Ruby needs Lucian’s protection to live peacefully away from her psychotic adoptive brother who wants her gone. Lucian needs Ruby’s wisdom to keep his pack safe from an uprising of a dangerous new breed of rogues.
Ruby and Lucian being together is a complex juxtaposition of contradictions. But what can they do when the universe wants them to be together and their fates are entwined? They have no choice but to be life companions in that case.
Finding good Ruby Rose stuff that actually shows her maturing is tricky. A lot of fics just turn her into generic sad girl angst, you know? I spent ages digging. The 'RWBY' section on Archive of Our Own has the most volume, but you gotta use filters. Tag for 'Character Development' and maybe 'Trauma' because, let's be real, that's where the growth usually starts. Skip anything tagged 'Dead Dove' unless you're prepared for a rough time. There's this one, 'The Weight of a Crown', that follows her leadership post-Beacon in a way that felt earned, not rushed. She makes mistakes, learns from Qrow and Winter, and the slow-burn political stuff with Atlas forced her to think beyond just fighting. It's not all action; there's a lot of quiet moments where she's just processing.
Someone on SpaceBattles forums did a crossover with 'The Legend of Korra' called 'Remnant's Avatar' that surprisingly nailed her growth. Throwing her into a world where she has to be the diplomatic one, teaching bending principles as a new form of combat philosophy... it made her smarter, not just stronger. The comments section there is half the fun, with people debating her choices. For pure character study, look for fics centered after Volume 3 or during the Atlas arc; writers have more foundational trauma and canon responsibility to build on there. Avoid the high school AUs if growth is your main goal—they tend to recycle drama.
I’ve been obsessed with Ruby Rose fanfictions lately, especially those that balance high-stakes action with tender, slow-burn romance. One standout is 'Red Like Roses, Black Like Blood,' where Ruby’s combat prowess shines amidst Grimm attacks, while her relationship with Weiss Schnee unfolds delicately over time. The author nails the tension—every near-death scene makes their quiet moments feel earned. The pacing is deliberate, letting the emotional weight settle naturally. Another gem is 'Petals in the Wind,' which throws Ruby into a post-apocalyptic Remnant. The fights are brutal, but the romance with Blake is a quiet counterpoint, built on shared trauma and lingering glances. The contrast between chaos and intimacy is masterful.
For something darker, 'Thorned Vows' mixes political intrigue with Ruby and Pyrrha’s reluctant alliance turning into something deeper. The action sequences are cinematic, but the real draw is how their trust grows in whispers and stolen moments. If you crave a longer build, 'Falling Slowly' spans years, with Ruby and Jaune’s bond evolving from rivalry to partnership to love, all while battling Salem’s forces. The author weaves fight scenes into character growth seamlessly—each clash reveals new layers to their connection.
