I heard Deucalion’s voice ask from behind me. Just as I turned to answer him, all the torches, candle stands, and chandeliers in the hall went out leaving us in total darkness. I tried to navigate my way around the darkness for a few seconds but before I could make it to Valerian, I felt someone seize me by the neck. I screamed at the top of my lungs. “Illyria!!”

The air is thick enough now that Adom feels it pushing on his shoulders from above, a weight so heavy that his body can barely move. Adom reaches his hand out and clasps onto Alexander, doing his best to stabilize the other alpha.

The witch's fall through the portal slowed and I heard panicked grunts from behind me only for me to look back and see that the vines she had used to hold Astrid were also around Alpha Jaxon and Xavier. Oh no. She was going to use them as handrails to keep herself on this side of the border. I saw Alpha Jaxon's face tighten and I knew at once that he was planning to do something crazy. He held the black sword the witch had given me and with a swipe, he severed Astrid's vines from the witch. Now all he had to do was cut himself free as well and— Alpha Jaxon and Xavier locked gazes and then began to race towards the portal, Alpha Jaxon simultaneously cutting off all of the witch's pseudo arms

This was where the demon would attempt its final ascension, seizing complete control over Alex's body and soul. His eyes were a darker silver then she remembered, as they stared at Alpha Chris with a warning glint in the irises. Juliette swallowed as he handed her a silver scrapy thing. She knew this would make her feel sick. Sure enough, half way through she had to sit up and push the disgusting thoughts of gum under desks from her mind. Jaxon and Chris were sitting. Chris's gaze was out the window, but Jaxon's was fixed on Juliette.

JAX I wake up in a cold sweat, panting as my eyes adjust to the darkness of my room. All the talk lately about the shadow pack and strategizing how to align our defenses with Denver has been seeping into my nightmares, robbing me of sleep. I’m lucky in that I don’t have any personal experience with the shadow pack thus far, but in my nightmares Alpha Xavier is this larger-than-life villain, his followers these soulless, twisted monsters who kill without remorse. Then again, from what I’ve heard about the shadow pack, the version of them in my dreams may not be too far off.

"She doesn't look like much. Is she even a werewolf?" the same girl asked, glaring at me. Ok. What's her problem? "Stella, you know that you shouldn't talk that way to Ava" Katie warned. "I can do whatever the fuck I want" she snapped. She got up off the stool that she was sitting on and walked over to where I was. She circled me like a predator would do to its prey.
