She shrugged nonchalantly. Khadijah was about to object and dive into a long sermon about love when the door to Amirah's room opened and Na'eemah ran in and jumped on the bed hugging Amirah before giving Khadijah a peck. Na'eemah was ten years old, five years younger than her immediate elder sister- Fareedah.

She felt Lymeria’s staring and she smiled at her, “I can’t have someone rescuing me each time.” “Rescue you? Did something happen?” Lymeria asked worriedly. “No, everything is fine.” Amira lied, “I need to get going. I have to open the shop soon and study.” She turned, nearly bumping into Aiden as she did. She met his gaze, feeling as if her knees may cave beneath her, “Thank you for the ride.” She said quickly before moving past him. -----

He trailed after her immediately. “Amira,” Alessa called as she got to her. “Oh, Mrs. Hart.” “It's Ms. Kendall,” Alessa said sternly and Amira looked at Aiden before bowing a little to apologize. “I’m sorry, I had no idea.” She apologized. “Mum, please,” Aiden said but Alessa ignored him. “Amira, where are you from?” Alessa asked. “I grew up in California,” she replied. “How old are you?” she asked.

Atleast I don't have to talk about this dad thing with her right now. Amira shrieks. "Could that be Darren! God! It must be him!" she jumps from the couch. "He can't see me like this! I'm going to shower. You go get the door." She runs blissfully to her bedroom doing the happy dance as she strips off her pajamas. I shake my head as I stand to get the door. A quiet space carved out of the chaos. Amara sat beside Damian, still in her floor-length gown, the silver embroidery catching the faint glow of the streetlights. A few curls had escaped her elaborate hairstyle, a single strand falling over her shoulder, a soft defiance against the formal elegance of the night. She looked like a woman who had just stepped off a throne, weary from battle but victorious.

"Really. There's no need to worry. She's just... Amara." Damien let out a long, heavy sigh, leaning his head back against the headrest. He looked exhausted, not by the work, but by the sheer theatricality of the evening. "Has she always been this attention-seeking? Her whole life?" He paused, a flicker of genuine irritation crossing his handsome features. "Because frankly, it’s annoying. Once inside, Diyannah arranged for refreshments to be brought to the main salon, chattering with Amira about women’s things while Abdullah’s mind roved over his arranged meeting with Omer Ibrahim next week.
