she countered, throwing a faux glare my way.
I couldn’t argue with that, so I put my hands up in the air, surrendering.
She reached for her phone on the table, turning it over slowly like she was bracing herself for whatever she was about to see.
“Moment of truth,” she muttered, turning the screen on.
I watched as her eyes scanned the screen. Her expression didn’t change much, successfully keeping me in suspense.
“Daniel?” I guessed, waiting for her to say something.
“Of course,” she said flatly. “He left multiple missed calls, and messages as well.”
