You would have to go against everything you’ve believed in to win this. No matter how low, cruel, harsh, or dirty it got. You had to do everything to win, there was no such thing as mercy in this. Anyone and everyone could be a risk to you, no matter how old, how big, or how small the person was.

I turned toward him. He glanced at me briefly over the top of his sunglasses. “What?”

These are not playground games, they are tied to ultra-rich, deeply corrupt individuals and families who operate on a completely different level. And this brings me to an important point: mafia characters are not meant to be morally perfect. If you’re looking for soft, honorable, or traditionally “good” male leads, this genre, especially my stories, might not always give you that. The mafia world is not built on kindness or morality, it’s built on power, survival, and cruelty. I understand that not every character will be for everyone, and that’s completely okay. But I ask that you meet the story for what it is, not what you wish it to be.

Chiara Moretti Alessandro stared down at me, his jaw tight. "You say that now," he said, and took a step toward me. "But you do not understand what you are asking for, Chiara. The mafia world is not a boardroom. It is not about signing papers or making smart investments. It is a world built on blood, loyalty, and extreme violence. I ordered my men as I also shuffled around to do the same. The battle was fierce with bullets and dead bodies dropping to the floor. But damn! That was what the mafia game was all about. It's not a place for chitchats. And not for the weak-hearted. I fired at one of the men, hiding behind a tree and he dropped dead instantly, cussing alongside. “Motherfuckers!” I spat. My men were trying their best to fight as hard as they could. While I, on the other hand, was also doing my part. As soon as I plunged my dagger into one of the unsuspecting men's eyes, I observed a movement from the corner of my eyes.

She didn't try to find whether it was the whole truth and she clearly didn't see if Aster was being forthright. Come on, it wasn't that hard. Aster couldn't lie well and it's not rocket science to figure it out. Well, she was also an idiot. She smiled and started to worry about the matter. She could see that Marvin was not telling the entire thing. Even if he could help her, it shouldn't be easy. Why would it be easy? The mafia families are not like what they show in movies. Easygoing. They are called the top ones for a reason. And if their paths don't cross, it's better to not cross.

His eyes flicked toward me, sharp and unreadable. "Barely," I said, rolling my eyes. Then Paul started laughing, hand to his stomach, the kind of laugh that made people turn their heads. Michael instantly stiffened beside me, and I feared guns were about to be drawn. It was the Mafia, so every one was packing. "Is this another game?" he asked, voice dropping into that warning tone I knew too well. "No," Paul grinned, slapping him on the shoulder like they were brothers. "Relax. We're all family. And we all want the same thing."
