Bennett cleared his throat and I heard him speak for the first time without anger in his voice. “Hello my Omega, my name is Bennett. I have noticed your absence from the club and wanted to make sure you are alright.” One of his companions scoffed and mumbled under his breath something we could not hear.

BENNETT’S POV The second I stepped out of the car, I knew it wasn't a random street fight and it wasn't going to be fair. We were outnumbered and surrounded. My wolf clawed at me, itching for a fight. Ryder slid out of his side, his fists clenched tight, his eyes already scanning for weak spots. Then a voice I hadn’t heard since that night spoke up in a sharp tone. “Well, well. If it isn’t Bennett Cross.”

Xander’s smile waivered, but remained just the same. “But...” Benette hesitated. “D-do you mind if I take it off?” he whispered. Xander’s eyes widen. He unconsciously looked at Mordecai who didn’t seem to have heard Benette. The older medic seemed to have lost interest on the younger mage and was currently following Ezra as she flew around. “Can you?” Xander whispered back. Slowly, Benette stepped a bit closer. His hand moved slightly over Xander’s shoulder, then up to the back of his right ear under his long red hair and round to the top of his nape.

Carter sends it long. Bennett takes possession like the puck belongs to him like it was handed down, inherited, untouchable. Like no one else has the right to breathe near it. I sprint to keep pace, but at the speed he’s moving, I’m not sure he even knows I exist. His focus is singular. Predatory. The net. The defense smells blood. Eyes flare wide, then sharpen. The first man lunges. Bennett slips past him. The arena falls into a stunned silence.

“So that’s it? You’re making Angela into your little arrangement? Tell me, Carter… are you trying to make her into your mother? A rich man’s toy?” I froze mid-step. Fists clenched. Slowly, I turned back. Bennett was on the ground, heavy breathing, one hand pressing his ribs. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, but that smug grin was still there. “How’s your mother?” he asked, grinning wide. “Sleeping with rich men must be the fast track up, huh? No wonder you made it this far.” That got under my skin. I moved before thinking, grabbing his collar. His head slammed into the iron fence post along the ranch driveway, metal clanging through the silence.

His breathing became heavy and laboured like he was standing naked before a predator and sweat clouded his eyes. “Are you okay?” Kylie asked worriedly. Philip was a contestant. They couldn’t have him falling ill now. “He is fine. He has merely understood his place.” Davies guffawed. In his hands was a bag of treats. He munched on them gleefully while enjoying Philip’s misfortune. “Anyway, to answer your question, Razor is so called because of his transformation. Unlike other Beastmen who are fond of transforming as a last resort, Razor built his entire catalogue of combat techniques around his transformation. In that respect, he is very different from Davidson.”

Bennett turned toward me, looking like that was the last thing he thought should happen. “If I’m getting worse,” I told him, “then a support system outside of me will only be more important.” Bennett dropped his shoulders, like he hated what I was implying. Honestly, so did I. “Please,” I requested. Bennett broke our eye contact, grinding his teeth together. “You want me to host a guy’s night tonight for all our male cousins and Theo?” I nodded. “Fine.” He pushed off the ground to stand. “Manifest ten weapons.”
