Chapter 1

In The Beginning

Many legends dominate the realms of men. And each one is as unbelievable as the others; for that’s what legends are. They boggle the minds and provoke the thoughts of the self-conscious man. They give adults a magical potion that keeps their kids satisfied at night and lure them into the deep embrace of sleep. For children, however, legends are things they can dream about without any reservations. This story is a legend that is true; a legend that to all other fictions acts as a reprove. This is the legend of the New Moon. But to understand this legend, you must first be sent back in time. To the time before the world truly began; before dinosaurs dominated the earth. This was the time of the rebellion.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God

They say everything has a beginning. And that is true. For what can die that hasn’t been born? But to every rule there is an exception. And to every norm an abnormal. This abnormal was called God. He had no beginning for everything was birthed from him: space, time and matter. He was the beginning. But God wasn’t alone. Surrounding the Omnipotent One were beings of pure light and grace. These beings were called angels. Angels carried out the will of God. For they were made for such a purpose. And as it is with everything, the one who brought order to the universe created order within the ranks of angels. Of the angels there were 8 who were greatest. These eight were the archangels.

Archangel Michael, commander of the Legion Michael, angel of War and Power

Archangel Raphael, commander of the Legion Raphael, angel of Vitality and Healing

Archangel Gabriel, commander of the Legion Gabriel, angel of Messages and Guidance

Archangel Uriel, commander of the Legion Uriel, angel of Wisdom and Fire

Archangel Raguel, commander of the Legion Raguel, angel of Justice

Archangel Sarakiel, commander of the Legion Sarakiel, angel of Peace

Archangel Lucifer, commander of the Legion Lucifer and the bright morning star, angel of music and radiance

These beings watched over the universe, and followed the decree of the Omnipotent One. But some desired more. Led by the Archangel Lucifer, one dearly loved by God, several angels sought individuality from God, not understanding that their individuality was to be part of God. Their rebellion shook the realms and scotched the heavens. And everything was coated in chaos. This was the rebellion.

There were three figures standing upon a floating platform. This platform defied the laws of physics, stably keeping those who stood on it secure. The platform was connected to nothing in particular; yet it remained standing. The three figures on the platform were of similar likeness, having been created in the same image. The only difference was the color of their hair and their eyes. Each of them had six wings, and each was coated in a radiance so majestically grand that the human eye would have been blinded from staring directly at them for more than a second. Luckily, there were no humans here – only angels.

For beneath the platform several angels warred against each other. Silver blood was spilt and wings shredded as angels tapped into a barbaric nature not of themselves and ripped each other apart. In all this, the three who stood on the platform only watched.

“How many remain?” one of the three who stood in between the other two asked. This angel had deep blue hair and piercing blue eyes. His face was stern, and he watched everything that was happening below with a frustrated expression. This was the archangel Michael.

“Enough to drive out the rebellious one,” the white haired and white eyed angel to the left answered with a voice that was as soothing as it was mesmerizing.

“I wish it didn’t have to come to this. Even I cannot fathom why he rebelled. Is separation from the Heavenly Father really that attractive?” the green haired and green pupiled angel who stood to Michael’s left asked with a forlorn expression.

“Not even your great wisdom can peer through such a mystery Uriel. Do not think too much into it. We must only see that we accomplish the Will of the Father.” Michael was aggrieved by the happenings occurring below. Yet things had happened as they had. Nothing could be done about them. Lucifer who was their brother had been judged, and his fate was exile.

Suddenly a loud rumble of thunder could be heard, and a powerful bolt of lightning was summoned into the hands of one of the angels fighting below. This angels’ hair was pitch black, and so were his eyes. With the lightning in hand, this angel struck the brilliantly beautiful angel he was warring against, and sent him flying towards a planet several light years away.

“It seems Ramiel has struck him down,” Michael sighed. “A Star has fallen; much like lightning from Heaven. And the sky mourns his fall.” Uriel felt saddened by all this. His words were laced with emotion, and his eyes with pity. Gabriel who stood next to him was saddened as well. But what could they do?

“The others would be struck down soon. And this war will end.” Gabriel frowned and said. Sure enough, without the great Lucifer in their ranks, the other rebellious angels were struck onto the very same planet Lucifer had fallen onto speedily. For that was the cage created for them by God who couldn’t bear to kill off what he had created.

“You think this is the end?” Michael let out a bitter chuckle and said. Uriel who was next to him smiled painfully and added, “Brother, this isn’t the end of a war, but the beginning of one.”

Many angels fell that day. More than a fifth of the Heavenly Hosts lost their place that day. The planet they fell onto was called earth. But they didn’t fall in their heavenly form. Those angels closest to God like Lucifer were able to keep their forms and prevent themselves from regressing into lesser beings. Most however, weren’t that fortunate and morphed to become creatures of myth and legends.

Some became dragons – lesser and greater alike. Some became phoenixes and griffins. And still some became great beasts of wisdom and intelligence like winged serpents and mermaids. But these were beasts of conscious thought. There were some who lost themselves altogether, becoming creatures so hideous that their siblings who had seen them in their glorious angelic forms couldn’t bear to look at them. They would later be known to humans as dinosaurs.

In his mercy the Omnipotent One had given them a billion years to dominate the earth. And once that was over he destroyed it and built it anew. But there were those who escaped.
