We both stilled. I frowned, setting my mug down. "Who—?" Jaxon stood, but I was already moving, my heart picking up speed for reasons I couldn't explain. I opened the door, and my breath caught in my throat. A letter. My name scrawled across the envelope in handwriting I hadn't seen in years. The sender? Lauren Grant. My stomach fell. Jaxon's hand landed gently on my back. "Isabel?" I barely heard him. My fingers shook as I reached for the envelope, my mind racing with every possible reason why Lauren would reach out now, after all this time.
