My body wants to find him. I grab the bed frame and hold on. "No," I say out loud. "I am not going to chase a man who rejected me." The mark pulses again. Harder. Insistent. I ignore it. But the feeling does not go away. It stays with me all afternoon. A dull ache in my wrist. A quiet pull toward the door. A voice in my head that sounds like my wolf whispering: Go to him. He is yours. I do not go. ---

“The night before our wedding, he kissed me in the street. Right in the snow. And he promised he’d never leave me. Swore it.” I swallowed, heart twisting. “And then,” she said softly, “on the wedding day, I waited six hours in my dress.” A long pause. “He never came,” she whispered. My breath caught. “He ran,” Eliza said. “With my best friend. The one who helped me pick out the dress.” She smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “I found them. Eventually. Took a train three cities over. Found them in a bar, laughing. Drunk on cheap vodka and cheap betrayal.”

But she wouldn't have it any other way. She suddenly remembered how she has resisted him and she smiled. "Were you really going to give up on me? When you were still chasing after me, I rejected you so much that you gave up." She suddenly said. "So you wanted me to keep chasing after you, meanwhile you will keep rejecting me?" He asked, seemingly amused. "I was... just confused." "Well, I didn't really give up, but I didn't want to keep chasing after you. First of all, it's painful being rejected over and over again, and secondly; I wasn't sure that you were ever going to believe me, so I thought it was useless..."

(Chase’s POV) I ran as fast as I could on four paws after the car that was carrying my mate away from me, the echo of her rejection still burning in my veins. It didn’t matter. I needed her back. She was my mate, my goddess given soulmate. The car disappeared around the corner and by the time I had got there; it had disappeared. Everything drained out of me and I collapsed to the floor, whimpering. The despair took over as the hole in my heart widened to swallow me whole.

He crouched beside her, his face inches from hers. “Play sick games, Venessa,” he said coldly, “but never with my wife.” She looked up, still trembling. “You’ve lost your damn mind… Do you know who I am? Do you even understand what could happen to you if anyone heard about this?” “I don’t give a damn,” Chase replied, eyes dark with rage. “That little stunt you pulled at the party… locking her in, humiliating her?” He paused. “You're lucky I haven’t destroyed you. Yet.”

"I saw you hurrying out of the hall and got worried." "Indeed," I hissed. "You didn't have to follow me, Jake. Whatever intentions you have towards me aren't going to work because I am not in any way interested in whatever you have to offer and you need to fucking understand. We are both married so snap out of it."

Her smile would brighten his day and he missed her everyday. Nevertheless, that was far from the reason he strongly opposed her rapid, unthorough decision to get married to Chase. Chase behaved as his name sounded. He was a woman chaser. It never seemed he would ever get enough of them. Chase had his addiction to women. More clearly, Chris knew Chase as a womanizer. A reckless womanizer, but he was too cunning to let it show.

He escorted Lisa back and I followed closely. My legs brushed against someone and I stopped. Lisa stumbled, before I could move Kade's hand caught her instantly and they both fell to the ground. “Avia trapped me! she cried out, begging for kade's reaction.” Kade turned instantly, his face dark, spiced with anger. “Apologize to Lisa right now or I'll end this marriage this minute” “I lifted my hand, pointing to my legs, trying to explain. Why would I push her? I didn't, believe me, Kade. And won't apologize for something I didn't do.”
