Chapter one
"Congratulations! You are two months pregnant," Dr. Saskia said, smiling as she shared the news. I took some steps back in disbelief, my mouth wide open and my jaw dropping in shock, while blinking uncontrollably. "Me, pregnant?" I asked, stunned. "Are you sure?"
"Yes," she replied, "and this is the ultrasound report of the fetus she pointed to the file in her hand.
Would you like to see it on the screen too?"
"Yes, of course," I nodded, still clutching the pregnancy test firmly in my hand, as a laugh of stunned involuntarily bubbled up from my throat.
"Is this really happening?" I breathed, my voice barely audible over the sound of my heartbeat. Wondering how I could be pregnant after detecting kade's family had problem conceiving.
Doctor Saskia leaned forward, her finger tracing the outline of the fetus on the screen.
I watched, transfixed, as Dr. Saskia's finger moved across the screen. "The heartbeat is lively and healthy," she said, smiling.
I felt a lump form in the roof of my mouth as I stared at the tiny, flickering line. Like a soft whisper the ultrasound machine beep steadily along side my pumping heart finally believing I'm pregnant.
She handed me a few sheets of paper, her finger pointing to the appointment schedule and Healthy instructions. 'Follow these, and we'll see next month.
Her gaze flicked to my ring finger and back to my face as she said: extend my greetings to your husband,' with a reassuring smile."
After leaving the the ultrasound suite to the exit where I parked my car a forced smile spread across my face at kade's possible reaction flooded my mind. Would he be genuinely happy and stop being cold towards me because of the baby?
My fingers seductively rotated my car key, and the mild jingle it made raced with my heartbeat as I entered inside to surprise him in his office.
I Sighted kade's best friend a strone thrown away and I followed the entrance mat, which featured the company logo in gold, down to where he sat.
Kyle's eyes flicked up from his screen and he smiled as I approached him, Hey what brings you here? he asked, his ton friendly.
Is Kade in his office? I requested.
"Yes, Avia but he's..."
"Alright, thanks," I waved him off. He looked down, then back at me, but his eyes seemed different. I nodded and walked to Kade's office, taking slow breaths as I went.
I pushed open the seamless door, stepping inside. As I stepped inside, I was met with a sight that made my heart dropped to the floor. Kade's eyes were closed, his face inches from a woman's neck, kissing her.
My mind racing, I tried to process what I was seeing. I stumbled backwards.
As I stood there, frozen, I gasped in shock with my wide-open eyes. The sound I made snapped Kade's eyes open, locking onto mine instantly with a mixture of disgust and annoyance.
"Avia, what are you doing here?" he demanded.
"I...I wanted to..." my voice trailed off.
I cleared my throat, but before I could respond, the mysterious lady turned and faced me as she spoke up, her voice dripping with hatred.
"Look who's sneaking back into the picture, the little housewife who thinks she can replace me."
“Lisa”! I called. The memories of their unending love flooded, and my voice spell it out with jealousy
Her ever-attractive and familiar face smiled back at me, and I shook my head in disbelief.
"Happy to see me again? Let me guess... No?"
"Just shut up," I fired back, clenching my fists in anger.
Lisa's gaze questioned Kade's response, waiting for his reaction.
"No, Avia, you should just shut up and leave," he dragged my hands with his.
Lisa's mocking smile pulled my anger more, and I smirked in response as I yanked my hands off Kade's grip.
"You know what? You can continue your unending show. I didn't see anything!"
And with that, I stormed out of his office, running towards the exit.
The anger I had managed to swallow inside Kade's office betrayed me; my tears kept blurring my vision as I raced with unending speed, heading home for comfort.
I matched into the mansion, my feet heavy on the marble floor. The grand lobby seemed to spin around me, the chandelier's sparkle blurring as tears pricked at the corner of my eyes where I found kade's mother, lounging on the couch, her eyes fixed on me with an unnerving intensity.
"Mom," I greeted.
She looked up from her phone, angled her body and demanded, her voice dripping with playful sarcasm
"Call me Mrs. Wilder, please! Once you give me grandchildren, you'll have that undeserved privilege."
"Where's dinner? I'm starving!" she lashed out.
I hesitated, feeling a surge of resentment at the sudden demand, but replied, "I'll get started right away."
She examined the food I had prepared and scoffed, "Is this what you feed my son? Oh, learn, Avia, learn."
"And to think we had to take in someone from your poor background. I am not surprised you haven't fit in with the squad or lavish lifestyle. You should be grateful we even accepted you; that's enough reason to improve."
I bit back my anger and apologized, "I'm sorry... I'll try to do better." Tears formed at the corner of my eyes.
As I turned to make my escape, apologizing again, the door swung open, and Kade walked in with Lisa, stylishly dressed in her attractive smile and carrying a suitcase.
Lisa's smile faltered for a moment, revealing a glimmer of desperation in her eyes. "Mother," she said, her voice dripping with sweetness.
Mrs. Wilder's expression softened, and she welcomed Lisa with open arms. "Lisa, dear, it's so good to see you again."
"What's— what's going on?" My voice
quivered.
Kade didn't even spare me a glance as he said; "Lisa is moving in."
My mind simply emptied at his words.
Chapter 5The notification bell of my phone rings making my heart raised with a mix of fear and hope, I blinked twice, trying to stop my tears, with the bright light peeping into the glow of my phone screen. 1:15 pm. My heart raced as I read the message I've been waiting for, the words set my pulse racing” I'll be waiting for you “Everything else got blurred after reading through the message and for a moment the crowded terminal fades. It was just me, the message and the question in my chest. Am I doing the right thing? I pressed the phone towards my chest, knowing tonight would change everything. In a few hours time I'll be in the embrace of the only person who I knew still want me, my best friend, who won't dare betray me. I smiled not at my vulnerability, but to the silly things she'll have to say to me after seeing her. My lips curved, slightly faint but it was real, easing the pain I've been holding on to since Kade and my dad betrayed me. Looking at the bright faces of the p
Chapter four I stood in front of my father's house, the familiar mansion I'd spent most of my life in felt strange and awkward, suddenly the weight of uncertainty pressed against my chest. My mom, Linda, opened the door for me. “Avia what are you doing here?” She asked but before I could answer, the tears I've been trying to control spilled out. She hugged me with warmth and assurance. “oh, Avia, come here.”I sat down beside her, gently wiping my tears and wearing a fake smile, trying not to show my pain.“What happened?” is it a fight between you and Kade? I nodded, with my face facing down, hiding the disappointment and shame.“Why did you come here?” My father asked me while walking up to me, and I looked up meeting his gaze.I've prayed for comfort, not fire but what I'm sensing is the exact opposite. My father, Aaron, face sparkling with fury the moment he saw my face swollen with tears. He scanned me thoroughly looking for possible hints.“You fought with who? Kade?” Aaron
Chapter ThreeMy eyes widened fixed on Kade. Tears threatened to fall but I swallowed them back, I folded my arms folding each grain of anger back inside. “Have you ever cared about my feelings at all?”My voice cracked, alongside my heart betraying the strength I tried to hold in my folded hands. He looked up from his glass, his expression painting his face with a bitter frown. As if my voice was a rejection he never expected.“Do you even love me at all?”Even if it's just for pretense, I won't mind! I fired at him.My voice pierced my own ears, shaking steadily with my body, Kade and Lisa's eyes focused on me full with shock. The shock that surprised me too.Kade’s eyes grew larger, each one begging for freedom an escape, as if my presence was the only target audience in sight. Suddenly, Lisa's hand rose to shift a hair strand, instead of falling back to where it belonged. It lingered in the midair confused. Her gaze caught the signal and obeyed, her gaze collapsing to the floor,
Chapter Two:Lisa is moving in? Yeah, that's what I said; he responded, his voice filled with his ever-bossy tone, still not catching on.I felt my eyelids blinking rapidly, capturing the memory of their intimate display from earlier. My jaw clenched, and my teeth ground against each other in anger."You just brought her in... without informing me beforehand?" I stammered, the question rolling out with heavy breaths.Kade's deep brown eyes focused on mine, and I looked back with the same aura; he raised an eyebrow, as if to say "why”"You think it's fine to just bring her without notice?" My voice gushed out in a rush, with my fingers twisting into a nervous tight knot."See, Avia, that's right because it's simply for business and I don't think it's necessary," he shrugged. His response ignited a spark within me and I managed to force the words out with an even tone."How would you feel if I brought home my ex without informing you instead?"My voice trailed off, waiting for his resp
