Savannah nodded absently, but did not look up. Her distraction was so unlike her. Usually, she was sharp, focused, and often questioned everything. But tonight, though, her mind seemed somewhere else entirely. When our meeting finally wrapped up, Colleen stretched lazily, gave Savannah a knowing grin, and said he’d “check in later.” Then he left through the side door, and I waited until his footsteps had completely faded into the night.

Chapter 8 Who Else? Now that Colin knew I was working for Greenwald, I didn’t have to hide any of my books or keep my thoughts to myself. He still grumbled, but he’d accepted—for the moment—that trying to come up with something to give the asshole to get him off our backs was the best option. So when we’d gotten home and scarfed our giant sub sandwiches, I spread all the books out on the table and got back to work. I think thirty-two degrees celcius is the highest?” He handed a glass of water to Colleen. “But you don’t look tan.”

And the tremors in her hands kept returning. She didn’t want him to see either. So she hid. Kael did not appreciate being avoided. Not one bit. By the third day, pack members kept giving her looks. “Alpha’s not in a good mood,” one whispered. “He’s been looking for you,” another murmured. “He’s… tense,” someone added politely, which she knew meant one growl away from killing someone.
