I would be out of here and finally, escape from the warlock. I was about to approach the door when it flung open and I spotted the warlock, standing in the doorframe. With widened eyes, I stopped dead in my tracks and watched as his lips moved. He thrust his hand toward me as blue smoke came out of his palms, knocking me down on the ground and making me lose my grasp on the box. I stumbled on the ground as my elbows caught my weight. But the sound of glass breaking made me avert my attention to the broken box beside me.

"I turned eighteen today." I got into Sinners alright but after my first step in, I had a quick rethink of my impulsive decision. The interior was smoky and dim, a whiff of something in the air loosened my body and right beside me on a chair that was groaning for its dear life were two werewolves fucking loudly. I took a shocked step back but a drunk couple shoved me forward. "Get out of the way!" The female snarled. "Okay!" I squeaked and melted into the shadows.

A growl rippled through the guards as they all shifted their weight, eager and waiting for my order to attack. I lifted my hand slightly to keep them at bay for now. “Then start talking,” I said. “Right now.” The warlock exhaled slowly, shoulders sagging, but it didn’t look like fear. It looked like exhaustion. “My name is Roland. I used to serve as one of the King's mages,” he said, but quickly accepted that wasn't what we cared about. "This land was already dying when I arrived. A plague had taken root weeks before I ever set foot here.”

He’s not involved in any of this. "Interesting," Adrian said, his eyes darkening with a hidden fire. "That is my proposal. I want him. I want a marriage contract. I will clear every cent of your debt, I will give you the money you need to stay afloat, and I will keep the banks away from your door. In exchange, you give me your son. He moves into my house. He takes my name. He belongs to me." "You want Luca?" Dante shouted, standing up. "He’s just a kid! He has nothing to do with the war between us!"

And so will I. Slowly, I follow Slate's lead. The Grand Warlock is so deeply invested in his spell that he doesn't feel us moving behind him. It would be so easy to fight him, to take him from behind. But with all of the power pulsing from him, we could end up dying in the process. So instead we target the source of his power--the witches casting the spell. But I knew what he meant. “I’m afraid that my people always end up in war, even if it’s not with wolves,” I said honestly. “I don’t think we can take that on, Cazz. I mean… protect against it? Sure. But sit here and try to fix that? I don’t think it’s possible.” His lips twisted like he didn’t agree, but didn’t want to say anything. “Cazz…? What are you—” “You’re right,” He said bluntly. “I just… I wish it weren’t true. And I wonder… I wonder if the catacombs no longer serve our people as they have. I’ve seen it as our fortress. But perhaps… perhaps it has become our place of siege?”

Not to mention being mated to werewolves. It sounds like redemption. Will the Almighty, whoever has the upper hand, finally come to their senses and amend all their past inadequacies? Will they avenge all the lives lost? But at the expense of what? This battle we are facing will also cost lives and resources. My greatest fear is that the warlocks have penetrated the communities of other creatures in the past five years while I was in hiding. The extent of their influence has exponentially increased beyond restraint. My earlier cowardice and reluctance may cost more lives than anticipated. But it has to stop now.
