“So,” Mara said, poking the flames with a stick, “what now? We killed an ice god, we survived an avalanche, and Kora’s glowing like a spirit lantern. Do we retire and open a bakery, or what?”
I chuckled softly. “You’d burn all the bread.”
She pointed her stick at me. “That’s rude. And probably true.”
Edward gave a rare, faint smile but said nothing. He was staring into the fire, lost in thought.
After a while, I broke the silence. “The Warden said something before he vanished. He said the flame remembers love, compassion, and that it would destroy the balance if left unchecked.”
