We were the same size and could easily share, but Derek would always be Derek, like a clingy girlfriend; anything he liked somehow found its way back to his apartment. Through the first half of the day, I only received deliveries and cancelled the arrangements I'd made, and by evening what he'd really been waiting for finally arrived, and Derek was the first to open the sealed envelope. For a moment he just stood there, then slowly walked over and sat down beside me. "Taron Hale sent this." Derek pointed to the opened file. Before I could grab it, he pulled out a second brown envelope and set it on the bed. "Eron Ashen sent this."

He said before clearing his throat to continue. "Athena, you and I are going to survey the right half of the Meadow. Malcolm and Drake are going to do the left side up the mountain. Hector, if you don't mind keeping watch with Adam, a signal is when he links you." Erik said. He looked at me with a smile, his eyes twinkling in the sunlight, his hair slightly blowing in the breeze. Something about him the last few days has been driving me crazed. "Of course, Alpha Erik, anything to help rid us of this leech," Hector said, giving a quick bow and heading towards Adam.

31 (DENVER HALES POV): After much deliberation I deceided to go for it even if i did not want to. Delanie wasn't telling me the truth and i had to know. I was supposed to get her contract from Kyle tonight but how could i take that risk when i had no clue of where she was. I needed to find her quickly before facing Kyle.

“It’s ironic that you woke up first, Derek.” A chilling voice commented behind him, sending frissons of fear down his spine. As Hael Wilder came into view, the real unease started crawling in Derek’s belly. Hael’s eyes were dark, almost black, but his expression — the rage that sparkled from his eyes? Derek knew he was dealing with a bigger monster than he and his brothers combined. He was looking at a stone-cold killer. Then Hael smiled. “Do you have any idea why you’re here, Derek? What could you have done to cross my path?” Hael waited, his gaze never wavering from the older male, and Derek shook his head, unable to say anything with the tape over his mouth.

Alex began hesitantly, "there’s someone at the border requesting to see you." Derek raised a brow. "Who dares to request an audience at this hour?" Alex shifted uncomfortably. "It’s Kael Blackthorn." The name hit Derek like a punch to the gut. His eyes narrowed, his jaw tightening. Kael. The rogue Alpha. The man who had once stood at the pinnacle of power, only to be cast down for crimes he swore he never committed. “Take me to him” Derek ordered, his voice cold. Alex hesitated. "Are you sure? He—"

“Guess who I’m thinking of murdering.” He raises an eyebrow. “I'd like to see you try.” “We both know I’m going to win. Just like the infinite number of times I’ve beaten your ass.” He gives a short laugh. “You’re so full of yourself, aren’t you?” I shrug. “I’m the best at what I do and that’s a fact. Derek says only idiots get mad at facts.” He rolls his eyes. “Maybe focus your murderous intent on the one person that actually deserves it. Victor Hale.” He smiles sweetly. “I’m sure your precious Derek would looove that.”

I know because I was watching the ceiling and tracking her breathing until it changed. The number on my phone is one I recognize but have not seen in eleven years. I answer it anyway. "Alexander," Richard Hale's voice. Derek's father. My oldest friend, before he became something more complicated than that. "I need to talk to you." "It is six in the morning, Richard." "I know. I am sorry. I would not call if it were not important." I close the laptop. Stand up. Move to the window where the city is gray and just beginning. "Talk." "It is Derek." A pause that carries weight. "He is in trouble. Real trouble. Not the social kind." I wait.

“Routine checks. Nothing invasive.” I nodded, trying to focus on his words and not on the way Derek was standing next to me like a very large, very silent shadow. A shadow with opinions. And shoulders. “You can sit, you know,” Dr Hale said to him, gesturing towards a chair. “I’m fine,” Derek replied. He was not fine. He was wound tight enough to snap. I think the chair in question breathed a sigh of relief. Dr Hale continued, explaining hormone levels, timelines, next steps. I listened, but every time he looked at me, I felt Derek’s attention sharpen behind me. It was like being watched by a very judgemental, hovering radiator.

To the right, a picture of Harou himself; In the middle, a picture of Blake with darker eyes in a deep green and hazel; and to the right, a picture of Damian, or as Harou likes to call him, Keiran. Blake nods in disbelief. "This, can't be real. This is . . . . What is this?"

Derek had for long prepared himself for that position just for it to be handed over to Denzel at the last minute. He felt heartbroken and cheated. He protested Denzel’s capability to run the company since he had prior experience in corporate and business management but it seemed Mr. Wesley had pulled a few strings and Denzel was voted in as the CEO by the board members.
