She was gone anyway and her greatest secret lay in a crumpled piece of paper under my bed. I took the sponge from its holster before squirting out pleasantly scented liquid soap from a plastic bottle. My mother never bought anything detergent, she beloved it would irritate and make our skin peal and burn. The soap foams generously, creating large amounts of sweetly smelling lather with just a few scrubs. I scrub on the plates in circular motions, hoping to get over with the chore quicker. I scrubbed to fast, accidentally splashing the soapy water on my clothes.

He stood at the gap, his wide shoulders blocking the view of the pedestrians. I sighed and stripped. I pulled the white shirt off, then the trousers. I stood naked in the biting air. I grabbed the cloth and dunked it into the barrel. The water was freezing. It felt like a thousand needles piercing my skin the second the cloth touched my chest. I scrubbed hard. My skin turned a raw, angry red. I knew no amount of scrubbing would easily take the fragrance off. It was oil-based. It was designed to last. Only real soap would do it, and I didn't have any.

He pulls his fingers out and wraps his arms around me. For a moment, we stay still, letting the drops of water splatter off our skin and trickle down our bodies. Only the sound of the shower fills the air. Then Shawn states the obvious. "You dropped the soap." I chuckle. "I know." It's his fault. If he had only behaved, I would have been able to finish washing him. I guess I still have to do that. I kneel down to pick up the soap. I manage to get my fingers around it, but as I'm about to stand up, I make the mistake of lifting my head first. The sight in front of me immediately distracts me.

I walk back towards her desk, taking a seat and placing the now filled cup on a small medical tray. Sophia takes a PH test strip before dapping it into the cup…her eyes watching keenly for the result. I have no idea what she is looking for, what colour it may turn but as she pulls the strip out and places it under the desk light…a sigh escapes her. “Positive.” She declares as she places the test down and rips her surgical gloves off. “I need you to terminate it.” I coldly respond, the sooner the better. I needed this nightmare to be over with.
