she said softly, “you want to talk about the… Seer thingy?”
I snapped my head toward her. “Stop calling it that.” My voice came out sharper than I intended. I dragged in a breath, rubbing the back of my neck. “It’s nothing.” My gaze drifted to the book, still lying on the desk like a curse. My stomach twisted just looking at it. I couldn’t bring myself to touch it again, not after what it had done to me.
“The book,” I said, gesturing toward it, “wrap it in something. Hand it to me. I don’t want to…” I trailed off, shaking my head, “…experience that again.”
