My head swam and I clutched my chest while trying to crawl away from Claude. "Hey!" A deep voice called down the alley. Suddenly, Claude pitched forward, catching himself on the nearest wall. I looked up to see Ellis standing where Claude had just been. He reached a hand out to me. Dizzy and shocked, I looked between Ellis and Claude. "What the f*ck man!?" Claude shouted. He whipped around, eyes blazing as he glared at Ellis. "The lady and I were just leaving," Ellis said. He grabbed my partially outstretched hand and pulled me to my feet, positioning himself between me and Claude.

“What?” “I turned it down.” Rowan scoffed. “Great. He's not just good at disappearing, he's also really good at being stupid.” “What?” Asher said, louder this time. “Ellis, what the hell—” “I didn’t know if I’d make it out alive,” Ellis simply said. “And I almost didn’t. And even if I did, I didn’t know what I’d wake up able to do. Skating. Walking. Anything.” Rowan huffed weakly. “Yeah. That checks out.”
