Eric seemed to be trying to hold in his laugh as well as he sipped his ale. Ember, though, just slammed her pint down next to me and held out her hands. “Let’s play a game.” Castor’s eyebrows shot up. “Ember, must you really—” “It’s just a game,” she hissed at him over her shoulder. “Hold out your hands. I’ll show you how to play.”

“She’s in the playroom, waiting. I’ve told her a little about you, so she knows who you are.” My stomach flipped. This was it. We followed her down a hallway, the sound of our footsteps echoing softly against the linoleum floor. When we reached the playroom, I paused at the door, drawing in a deep breath before stepping inside. Emilia sat on a small chair near a low table, her tiny hands clutching a worn stuffed bunny. She was smaller than I expected, with dark hair that fell into her eyes and an expression that made my heart ache. She looked up at us cautiously, her body tensing like a deer ready to flee.

We leaned into one another, sharing the joy that only a lighthearted animation could bring. As the animated characters on the screen engaged in a comical chase, Ethan couldn't contain his excitement. With a mischievous glimmer in his eyes, he lunged toward Emily, pretending to be one of the characters. Emily, quick and agile, dodged his advances, giggling with delight. Caught up in the infectious energy, I joined in the playfulness. Pillows flew through the air, transforming the room into a temporary battleground of laughter and joy. Ethan and Emily squealed with delight, their youthful spirits radiating with each playful exchange.

Those words used to make me feel guilty. But now they only made me sick. Because I knew Emily wasn’t asking for help. She was building a stage. And I was the main character. I opened my eyes again, staring at her with a look that left no room for negotiation. “Emily,” I said, flat and sharp. “I’m not going to fall into your game.” Her expression wavered. “They do? Why?” “Lady Sarah inadvertently let it slip that you taught her how to play a more entertaining game of Trundling Hoop and Roll. I just shook my head not caring about what she has to say. “I have no time for your not finished drama , Joseph.” Emily replied back to me, really gotten in to her character. I stood up and Maddy tried to pull me back to my seat, “Joseph, stop it.” She said, but I do not care. My mum who were right beside my right side also told me to sit down again.

“But I wanted to roleplay a wedding! How can we roleplay a wedding when mister is the driver?” “Come on, Miss Emery. Why don’t you like it? Do you and mister have anything to do with each other?
