Unmated Novels & Stories

"That's sweet. Is it...forever?" Abby laughs a little. "Yeah. And I know that seems kind of weird, like we don't have a say in this, but we see mates as a really positive, joyful thing. Liam and I are really happy to be mated. Lots of us who are under eighteen can't wait to turn of age and find our mates." I sip my coffee and then set it on the coffee table in front of us. "So is it like being married? But with no divorce?"

"I know." "Our packs are finally becoming allies." "I know." "And now..." He gestured vaguely between them. "...this." Maren nodded slowly. "Complicated." "Very." She studied him for several long seconds. Then asked the question neither could avoid. "Were you ever mated?" Adam shook his head. "No." "You?" "No." Another silence. This one is more gentle. Outside the office, life continued. Tony eventually clapped Matthew on the shoulder. "They're going to be there for a while."

Find their mate. Halfway through the orchard, Wyatt already knew that his mate was not there. There was no scent from her. No pheromones. No tingling sensation. No pull. Even if his mate was not here, there would be plenty of maids that would be willing to be his for the night. It was a long-standing unofficial tradition. Any females who had not found their matches by the end of the Hunt would wait at the far end of the course. Unmated couples could hook up for the night and there would be no harm done when they parted ways the following morning.

"We are gathered here today not for a holy solemnization but for an unveiling of two mates who have found love. As you know this union is between Alpha Brian Maslow and Serah Handel. The Moon goddess has blessed them to be mates and today, we officially join them to be one", the vicar said. Brian felt queasy as he watched his mate, the woman he loved walk down the aisle dressed in a resplendent cream coloured gown. She walked alone, like the brave woman she was who was in no need of chaperones.

“Mathew is unmated. That’s why he has spare time at night.” For some unknown reason, he felt an unease in his chest, his heart thumped at the picture of happily married Mathew with his kids. “This luxury is for living. I am such a fool.” An empty smile adorned his face, he chuckled at his understanding. “Unmated wolves commonly have bad attitudes, he will be fine after having a wife.” Jason wished him good luck and left, a sly grin spread at Mathew’s face. “It’s working, my mate likes the way I look.”

Among the whole pack members, she and three others were the only unmated ones. A mate? Did she want one? If she could be Alpha Nolan's mate, she would be happy to find one. She wasn't ugly, was she? How could twenty members be mated? Leaving four unmated ones.... Maybe she was Alpha Nolan's mate? She sat up at the thought. She leaned back on the tree again. If she was, they would have known a long time ago. Her scent wasn't alluring or enticing to the Alpha or any member at all....

In a Beta-Beta relationship, they usually both marked each other. Once the mark is completed, it makes the mates more attuned to each other – they can pick up their scent from further away, or they can sometimes sense the other’s emotion; in general, their presence just felt greater. Each year without a mate meant the closer they came to becoming Unclaimed – wolves who were never mated and often went into depression or gave themselves to prostitution. Jessica felt terrible for them – she had met a few Unclaimed in their town and they were all extremely sincere and kind wolves who would have undoubtedly made a beautiful mate.

Jason replied as if it was completely normal. “What am I supposed to do,” She inquired her confusion mounting. Anna hadn’t told her a single thing and the CEO himself was now leaving yet it wasn’t even 8.30 am. What kind of company was this, she wondered again. “Well you can play with the birds, they are yours by the way. That's my welcoming gift to you. Plus there are lots of games on this computer. Do you have any games on your phone?” “Candy crush but…,” Cassandra was beginning to say before Jason interrupted.

Of course, he hasn't. Mate. My mood suddenly grimaced. "What about you? Did you find your mate?" My hand stilled. "No, I haven't." Lying to him seemed easier than letting myself tell him the truth. "I see. That technically means we are the only unmated wolves here. Quiet relieved to know." My brows knitted in confusion. Didn't Augustus also unmated? My eyes wandered to his face, only to find his electric blues staring at me. Or probably, I was wrong.

I said irritably. “I have an idea on that.” Nolan said. “There have been cases of unmarked couples, where one of them fell gravely ill or was injured. When the mate bond is sealed, it allows the pair to pull strength from each other. If you are both still wanting to seal your bond with marking, that may make your body strong enough to use your abilities and well…. stay conscious.” “I sense a ‘but’ coming.” I said. “But we don’t really know what will happen.” He admitted.
