“All of us. We got back in that car and we drove away.”
The storm outside cracked with thunder as if the world itself was bearing witness.
“And someone saw,” Emma said softly.
They all froze. Daniel ran a hand over his face.
“This is worse than we thought,” he said.
“No,” Lena replied. “This is what actually happened.”
Four people, one night, a lie that had rotted over time now exposed. Emma sank into a chair, her body trembling.
“He was alive…” she whispered again.
Marcus looked toward the door.
“And now,” he said quietly, “whoever saw it… knows we left him there.”
