Who could have done all of this? "Ute?" Anne trembled. She even held onto the edge of the table. Memories of the short-haired woman flashed through her mind. Not to mention every corner of the room she knew was engulfed in thick smoke. Through the still-connected intercom, she could hear heartbreaking screams and shouts. God, please don't let this attack cause Anne to lose Ute. She couldn't bear to lose her best friend. And the people inside the headquarters too. Surely... oh God! Anne even covered her mouth, suppressing the anguish that started to engulf her.

"No! Stop this madness! This has to end!" My father’s face twisted with anger, and in a flash, he transformed, lunging at me. I barely dodged, my training with my master the only thing keeping me alive. Red joined the fight, his movements a blur of fury. The village became a battlefield, the clash of weapons and cries of pain deafening. The ground trembled, and a piercing scream split the air. Everything stopped as three figures descended from the sky, their silhouettes wreathed in shadows. "Anne!" they called in unison, their voices ringing with eerie familiarity.

Quinn's point of view I could scent Nathan before I even opened my eyes, but when I stretched, I knew I was lying on a bed, which was strange as I was sure I had fallen asleep on the couch in his office. I opened my eyes, and sure enough, I was lying on a bed in Nathans old room in his parent's suite. I was still fully clothed; even my shoes were on. I wandered into the living room to find Sarah, Megan and Summer looking for a photographer; apparently, Sarah couldn't decide between two, so the girls were looking through their portfolios to help her choose. I also found out that we were also having a videographer as well. I didn't really understand why we needed both, but Sarah had insisted.

Anne wanted to smile, but her lips wouldn’t move. Not too much… just a little mistake… And then she sank back into darkness. When consciousness returned, it was faint, only the sterile scent of medicine, and the rhythmic beeping of a heart monitor. Anne opened her eyes slowly. Everything was white. White walls, white sheets, white curtains. Even her hands looked pale, bloodless, foreign. A nurse’s voice drifted by. “She’s stable now, but her stomach’s severely damaged. She’ll need to be monitored closely.”

He paced back and forth in his living room, phone pressed tightly to his ear. Ava exhaled, sounding exhausted and frightened. "There is a lot going on that we don’t know. Ashley was sent by Dad, Zay. I don’t even know if the pregnancy is real or not." Zayden ran a hand through his hair, the room suddenly feeling smaller.

Still, some people clearly lacked survival instincts. At minute ten, I was debating breaking my promise and going upstairs when a soft voice interrupted my storming thoughts. “There you are,” a woman said sweetly. I turned, warily. She was someone I vaguely recognized from the earlier mingling—a friend of Lisa’s, I thought. Slim, overly perfumed, and smiling too hard. “Anna’s been looking for you,” she said, tilting her head. “She needed your attention… somewhere more private.” I frowned. “She sent you?”

Inside was a faded photo of Natalie, age five, grinning with a missing tooth. She held it out. Natalie didn’t take it. But she looked at it. Really looked. Then she walked back into the shelter, not saying another word. Meekey stood alone in the alley, hands shaking, the cold air slicing through her. She didn’t know what would happen next. But for the first time in fourteen years, it didn’t feel like the end. It felt like a beginning.

Just as she was about to make her exit, her eyes met the piercing gaze of Doctor Hannah, who had been silently observing from the doorway. Startled, the nurse let out a piercing scream, jolting Lena awake. Jayden, alarmed by the commotion, rushed into the room, his heart pounding with fear for his wife and child. His eyes widened in shock as he saw the nurse cradling his newborn in her arms while a lifeless baby lay near Lena.

I was wearing an old white cardigan that I’d had for ages, but I felt comfortable in it. As I started to walk back, I realised that I was completely alone in the dark. Then my phone rang, but when I saw the name of ‘Jack’, I decided not to answer. There was another area where water could fully envelop your body and I was on the point of jumping and letting my body go like Virginia Woolf’s when the phone rang again. Jack. ‘Yes?’ ‘Anna. Please, listen to me. Let me know how you are doing. I’ll meet you soon when nobody knows’.
