Fearing. "You must forget them." The Forgotten One says simply. "Your mates. Your family. Your love. You return to life. You live your mortal years. You die naturally. Immune to the Absolute because you forgot why you wanted to live. Forgot who you loved. Forgot what made you desperate. You become immune through amnesia. Protected through forgetting. Free through loss." Horror crashes through my fading consciousness. "I have to forget my family? My mates? My Luna? My Hope? Everyone I love? That's the price?"

We fear not only the loss of their physical presence but also the irreplaceable connection, shared memories, and the future experiences that will never come to be. The fear of losing someone dear can be a driving force behind our actions. It motivates us to express our love, to cherish moments spent together, and to resolve conflicts and misunderstandings. It compels us to make the most of the time we have, to create lasting memories, and to appreciate the beauty of the present.

My deepest fear at this point was that by the time this was over killing would become a menial task. I wanted to forget the unforgettable. I knew I never would… but maybe if I pretended, it would eventually become reality.

“I think you’d like her. Or maybe you wouldn’t. You were always better at seeing through people than I was.” There was a pause, just long enough for everything to settle in my chest again. “She asked me once what I’m afraid of. I didn’t answer. Not really. I couldn’t tell her it was this.” I looked at the ground, then at the trees, then back at the stone. “I’m afraid of forgetting you. And I’m afraid of remembering too much. I’m afraid that if I let myself love someone again, I’ll lose them too. Or worse—I’ll be the reason they break.”

But my hand slammed into the bars with a resounding clang, a spark of metal echoing through the corridor. “I am afraid of nothing,” I hissed. She didn’t flinch. Didn’t even blink. That made it worse. “You’re afraid of being forgotten,” she said simply. “That’s the real curse of power, isn’t it? You crave legacy. You want people to remember your name—but no one remembers tyrants. Just the ones who rose against them.” I stepped back. I needed air. Needed distance from her voice. But I also couldn’t leave. Not yet.

Or pure, unadulterated fear for what she sees. All I know— Is that whatever happens next… Will never be forgotten.

"You think you can just say these things and make everything go back to the way it was? It's not that easy." Her voice cracked as she continued while her hands trembled at her sides. "You don't understand the fear I carry. The fear that one day, that you'd wake up and realize you don't love me anymore. Or worse— you might forget me again and go on loving someone else." "Selene, I—"

"Who do you want to go to the tulip field with? And go on a hot air balloon ride with?" Her pupils quivered, and she shook her head. She had never once thought about who she would do these things with; she had merely written them down out of fear that they would fade into oblivion. The prospect of losing all her memories terrified her, for she was afraid that she wouldn't remember even her smallest desires. Those wishes, which others could easily fulfill, would then transform into lingering regrets in the void where her memories had once resided.

Timothy asked and Mira nodded. " I know this sounds stupid but I can't help it. Hazia revealed to me that after I leave, everybody will forget about me. The memories we created in the past one year will all be gone and nobody will remember me. I don't want to be forgotten but I know I can't be selfish and wish to be remembered. Being reminded of me will only bring sadness to the people I love. I don't know what to feel anymore." Mira confessed. " Will I also forget about you?" Timothy asked, dread filling his every being.
