“I love you. More than the club, more than the past, more than anything.” We made love slowly that night, full of emotion and promise. Afterward, Zander held me close. “Tomorrow we end it,” he murmured. “Then we ride. Just us and Finn. One last long ride into the sunset like I promised.” The next morning was tense, I had to admit. We dropped Finn with my grandmother and met Brick at the bank. The safety deposit box contained exactly what Isolde promised, irrefutable proof linking Judge Whitmore to the cartel payoffs and Flinn’s murder.

The last part of that was harsher than I had planned to say, but once spoken, it felt true enough to keep. Finn’s throat moved once. “Lucas,” he began. I cut him off by catching him at the front of the neck and hauling him half upright. The movement tore at my side and sent a hard white spark of pain through my ribs, but I held him there anyway, his weight hanging more from my arm than his own strength by then. He pointed his gun to Julie's head and Julie raised her hands in the air. "Why?" I looked straight to Finn's eyes. "Interesting to know that you and Phoenix are actually husband and wife." He chuckled like it was a joke. "I thought you're going to propose to her?" I shot him back with another topic. Finn turned to Julie and Julie looked at him in horror. I'm still trying to process the situation here because it's confusing me. "I will kill her next and then you.. so you could see your father again." He smirked and that's when I really want to kill him. Finn's phone rang and he walked out from the room leaving the both of us together.

“And we’ll see you all again in a few months.” The video ended with Baxter leaning toward her and kissing her lips. “Come on assholes, you have to clean our toilets now,” a bigger, more broader and scarier inmate appeared, pointing towards Graham and Elgin. “They got their happy endings, and we suffer everyday,” Graham whispered in tears as he watched the stilled screen. The End.

I tightened my grip. Her struggles weakened. Stopped. I held on until I felt nothing. Then let go. Elena’s body crumpled to the floor. Dead. The room was silent. I stood there, staring down at her. At what I’d done. Kyros was quiet. Approving. Kael stood near the door. Watching. Not judging. Just… witnessing. “We need to go,” Finn said quietly. I nodded. We left the body where it fell. The return was faster than the approach.
