My fridge was empty. Like, really empty. Just a few apples rolling around the bottom shelf, a jar of cheese I didn’t remember buying, and coffee: Thank God for coffee.
I've been taking a lot of caffeine recently. But even I knew I couldn’t survive much longer on fruit and caffeine alone. I needed real food. Protein. Vegetables. Something a human being would actually cook.
That’s how I ended up at the grocery store, blurry -eyed, basket swinging from my arm as I picked through a selection of carrots. I was trying to remember if I still had any spices left at home when I heard my name.
