Choosing Fate
She may be asleep, but I want her to know that she isn’t alone.
“I’m angry for a lot of reasons too,” I say under my breath.
“Look how far anger gets us. More death. More pain,” Yaya says emphatically.
“You’re right. There’s no point in hanging on to our anger anymore. It’s like taking one step forward and then taking three more backward. We just have to keep working together,” I declare. Yaya nods, finishes her water, and then presses up from her chair.
“Are you ready to go to the next room? I feel okay to keep going,” she says, fidgeting with the tips of her fingers. I chuckle to myself thinking about my habit of twirling and flicking my pen when I’m nervous.
