Despite winning the game, there were no signs of excitement flashed through his face.

He turned around and smiled at Yang Xiao, “This is the perfect opportunity for him to back off!” A person came up from Park Suhyeong’s back and fiddled with the computer. The electronic chessboard lit up, revealing the electronic chessboard on the computer screen. Park Suhyun flaunted, “Hei Zi will go first according to the international chess rules. You just have to touch the chess pieces that you’re about to play, and the chess pieces will disappear! The computer will automatically time away, voice notification! She moved her knight and ate my queen, which gave me an ample opportunity to replace my pawn with my queen.

"Do you know," Zayn said quietly, "what happens when you push your pawn forward, knowing your opponent thinks you’ve made a mistake?" Day stayed silent. Zayn looked at him again, but not fully. His gaze hovered, then returned to the board. He moved the white queen. "They rush in... thinking they've won." He leaned back, a cold smirk forming on his lips. "Let’s see how the game goes."

Jessie asks innocently, Kai smiles at Jessie, “I think she’s just a little warm, she’ll be fine. I brought the chess set down with me, would you like to play me?” Jessie nods enthusiastically and he puts the box and board down Jessie eagerly sets up the pieces, “Black or white?” She purses her lips, “Black, you can go first.” Smart move for a new opponent, he nods turning the board around and moves a pawn. The game takes a while, and he takes his time getting to know her style too. He looks at Serena once she’s calmed down again,

Samuel Voss stood. “Tell me, Oliver,” Samuel said, addressing House Phantom’s wildcard. “What happens to a pawn when it reaches the other side of the board?” Oliver blinked. “What?” “A pawn,” Samuel repeated, tilting his head, “when it moves forward enough… what does it become?” There was silence. “A queen,” Oliver answered. Samuel smiled. “Exactly. Which means a pawn can change.” He leaned in slightly. “So what if Lord Aldric was a pawn at first? That doesn’t mean he stayed one.”

Then a low sound, not quite approval, not quite warning. “Check yourself properly,” he muttered. I frowned. “What?” He turned away, almost smiling. “You’ll learn the game soon enough.” I stepped forward. “And if I already know it?” “Then you’ll understand that some pieces can’t be kings.” I swallowed hard. I then realized that this was about a game of chess, but more about my limits. “Better a pawn that moves than a queen that stays silent.” His head snapped back toward me, eyes sharp, calculating. “You compare yourself to a queen?”

he explains as he begins moving the king and queen, “But they’re not the most powerful.” I gawk at him, unsure of where he’s going with this. “These.” He taps on the pawns and begins moving those too. “Often mistaken for the lowliest, they can knock off all the other pieces with just a single move." I’m out of my element here. The Neal I know didn’t care about chess…enough to explain it to me at least. But then, he’s no longer the Neal I know. Like me, he has metamorphosed into another version of himself. I’m just not sure which I prefer.

The game master hesitated a bit and then moved his knight upwards. One of the rules that I had learned from Dawson was to ensure that she picked a piece in accordance of their rating.
