I backed up slowly, reaching into my apron pocket. My fingers closed around the syringe I always carried just in case.
"Garrett, you need to calm down."
"Calm down?" He laughed, a broken sound. "You've destroyed everything. Frieda, me, all of us. For what? Money or Power?"
"You wouldn't understand."
"Try me!"
He lunged forward, fast and desperate, but I was faster.
I pulled out the syringe and jammed it into his neck before he could grab me. His eyes went wide with shock, then glazed over as the sedative hit his system.
