Her father’s fragment shimmered nearby, trembling but alive, anchored by the delicate thread of Ava and Jace’s resolve.

Ava barely had time to register the movement before the ground opened in front of them, revealing a pit of shadows so thick it seemed to swallow all light. Cold, impossible darkness seeped upward, curling around their ankles, pulling at them, whispering, “Fall. Fail. Belong to me.”
