The Alpha’s Mistake: Lila’s Rise from Rejection

The Alpha’s Mistake: Lila’s Rise from Rejection

LILA The house woke before dawn. Old wood shifted, the hearth whispered, and the air felt different—alive again. I stood at the foot of the stairs when I heard them coming. Two sets of steps, uneven from the road, but in rhythm all the same. When the door opened, cold air rushed through the hall. Gavin filled the doorway first, broad-shouldered and hollow-eyed, his arm curved protectively around Mara. Her cloak was soaked through, hair tangled against his chest, her breath caught between exhaustion and relief. I didn’t wait for an explanation. I crossed the hall, my hands lifting before my mind caught up.

DragonBorn

DragonBorn

I gave her a smirk, peering down at her and she lowered her gaze. Gawain took a route which I recognized as the longer route to the Circle. There were fewer shops on this route and people with tattered clothes and some with a few deformities roamed this place, begging for food. Alms. Another reason I had hated this route. I could never pass through without spending all I had on me. Gawain pulled to a stop and waved a hand. I turned slightly and my cheek grazed his lips. I stilled at the softness and looked forward.

The Book of Deceive

The Book of Deceive

His reptilian eyes were focused on Jarden. "Where is he?" asked Galwan while slowly walking down the narrow path. He was a picture what a wizard should be, the type of a picture that could be seen in old magical manuscripts. His pointy hat could be seen from a large distance. "He's near the Mardal's lair," the scout replied, "he's going the longer way." His hairy head moved, with lightning speed, towards the wizard. "What is that, the thing that he rides?" Galwan looked at the strange creature, which appeared slowly from the mist. It didn't look like any creature he saw. A wizard, of his rank, saw them more than some men have coins in their purses.

Once Upon a Tryst

Once Upon a Tryst

I reach down to catch her, to keep her in this place, but she is gone, only the smell of sulfur, sweat, and soiled rags filling the space where she once stood. _______ Gwain and Percival were waiting for me outside the tavern, their faces noticeably blank. I can tell they both have opinions about what just happened inside, but neither of them is crass enough to rub it into my face. "So..." Gwain pauses. "How did it go?" he smirks. "Sounds like you encountered a little female problem inside." Never mind. I guess at least one of them is crass enough. "If you could hear what was happening, why didn't you help?"

GWEN

GWEN

Gwen I climbed down from my horse and ran blindly in the snow. Arrows darken the sky like a swarm of deadly hornets, raining down upon the combatants with relentless fury. Shields clash as soldiers form a shield wall, bracing against the onslaught. Swords flash in the sunlight, carving through the chaos with deadly precision. Amidst the chaos, champions emerge, their valour shining like beacons in the midst of darkness. But they are slaughtered. They rally their comrades, leading charges and striking down foes with legendary prowess. Yet, even the bravest warriors falter in the face of overwhelming odds.

The Perfect Traitor

The Perfect Traitor

"That's ridiculous. You won't be able to cross the border let alone get allowed into the army of the enemy. They would think that you are a spy or kill you on the spot. And even if that didn't happen the word would spread of someone from Paria-Drae joining the Estril army and someone from Estril could try to kill you for it." And after her mother spoke that was the end of their conversation. Gwen went to her room after washing her hands vigorously. Her mother continued with the fish and she got lost in thought as she walked into her room. Gwen sat next to her window and looked over at the gloomy town. The window and frosted up and she drew some shapes on it. She faced the opposite direction

The Raven Wolf King: Wolfless

The Raven Wolf King: Wolfless

“Really? What is it?” “Well, did you know that the High Wolf King—the man you read about in the book, who fought the Raven Wolf King—is my descendant?” “But… the High King and that battle happened in England, where that royal pack still exists. Isn’t his descendant on the throne there?” “No. Once that battle was done and the High Wolf King—Gwain—was dead, there was another war for the throne. Gwain’s son was too young to take it, and opportunists took that chance to attack. Gwain’s family fled to the New World when the first settlers gave way.”

Cristobal’s Mania;Obsessional Drive

“Let's sit and talk,” Polly held onto me, she whispered “Please don't say anything to annoy them, Gwen” my eyes met her and there was fear in it. I had known her since she was eighteen, she is not intimidated by people or things When we sat down, his face didn't give anything away. It was calm and expressionless, “when my men came to me, that someone had refused to pay. I was surprised. Everybody here in San Marlow would pay when they ‘owe’ me”. He paused.

THE VAMPIRE BROTHERS

THE VAMPIRE BROTHERS

15th September 1335 Gwendolyn looked outside the window, heaving a sigh of regret. Right in front of her, her husband whom she thought had died years ago fled and never returned home. The worst thing that had happened to her was watching the man he loved flee and never turn back. She couldn't get a glance of who was after him, but she knew that it was the witch because Aurelius told her that he would run because staying back at the mansion would only put his family in grave danger. The door swung open and her maid stormed into her room distracting her from her heart-touching thoughts. She bowed slightly before raising her head and looking at her.

A truly intriguing story, told with care. Each chapter leaves me wanting to read more and there's so much to love about each character. I have to say I'm team Colby, Aiden and Darius though. A fantastic world too.
