As my vision start blurring, I saw a shadow above the water, red eyes staring back at me, smiling wickedly at me showing me his fangs. I shut my eyes waiting for death to come. My eyes snapped opened, I was covered in a cold sweat, shaking like a leaf, heart pounding with ubnormal speed. I?looked around the room suspicious and paranoid that the horror may had followed me here, afraid that monster had followed me here.

His eyes seemed lifeless and foreign, but the curve of his jaw and the tiny scar above his eyebrow were unmistakable. He’d gotten that racing through the forest when he was fifteen, the thorny bush infiltrated a maple tree and as he pushed through a devil thorn caught the skin above his eye, tearing away at the skin. I could still feel the fear that enveloped my tiny heart when I saw the blood running down his face, I still remember the smell of his blood as I cleaned it off using my red checkered bandana. Tearing the gag from my face, Jasper’s face gave nothing away, even when my heart leapt at the brush of his fingertips, he remained impassive.

Time fractured—seconds, minutes, everything meaningless. Shaking, she grabbed her phone and staggered to her feet. Her body moved on pure instinct. She turned toward the back door— A scream ripped through the house. Jade spun. Scarlett stood frozen in the doorway. Eyes wide. Horror painted across her perfect face. Her gaze locked on the carnage… on Jade, drenched in blood. Jade’s heart slammed. The lights flickered—and went out. Darkness swallowed everything. Before Jade could scream, a strong arm wrapped around her from behind, crushing her to a solid chest.

Their pleas for salvation droning on deaf ears, nurses too panicked to do more than fall exhausted and heartbroken at their feet. I find Jax in another room, his hands holding onto the broken glass window, or what remained of it, the entire room in disarray, indicating a struggle. Gale wasn't here either. Tiny droplets of blood fell from his hand attached to the shard of glass as he gazed out. The moment Jax's eyes turned away from the scenery of the window, I knew something was wrong. There was a different wave that rolled off him. Something scary, inhuman. Black eyes met mine. Not the usual grey they've always turned when he's about to shift.

Blood dripped from it, forming a small pool on the ground. My eyes widened in horror as I took in the gruesome sight. Fear gripped me, and I began to tremble uncontrollably. Rose's smile grew wider, her eyes glinting with sadistic pleasure. As I stood there, paralysed with fear, she threw the head towards me. It rolled across the ground, coming to a stop right in front of me. The sight of Nikita's lifeless eyes staring up at me was too much to bear. I let out a blood-curdling scream, the sound echoing through my mind.

Jigsaw chaos, maybe fifty bits, edges worn soft. Picture on the lid: A garden maze, hedges twisting like secrets. I knelt beside her, sifting colors. Blues and greens mostly, a splash of red for roses. "Maze, huh? Tricky. You start, or me?" She tapped a corner piece, sky blue, cloud puff, pushing it my way. Challenge accepted. I slotted it down, then grabbed a green curve. "Hedge? Or path? Bet it's a trapdoor to candy land." Her shoulders shook in a silent giggle, I think. She shook her head, snatching a yellow straight-edge.

With a cloth stuffed in his mouth. He saw there were two men sitting on the high chairs. They were just looking at him but they were too intimidating. He remembered how much he cried for Adam to untie him, to leave him, to send him back to Stephen. Speaking of Stephen. Another wave of shock trembled passed his body. He saw Stephen was thrown on the ground. He was hurt. He was choked. And then he bit Adam. His eyes turned yellow. His fangs elongated. And he killed Adam?

So, I sat down by her bed and slowly began peeling an apple with a fruit knife, making sure that she could see it. As the apple skin was gradually peeled off, the hatred in Lacey's eyes slowly vanished, and it was quickly replaced with terror. I wasn't going to do anything to her. It would be too dumb of me to try and kill her with my own hands. After I was done peeling the apple, I munched on it and began chatting with her, seemingly nonchalantly, like I was just talking about the weather, while telling her everything that had happened in my past life.

The couch was charred, clearly having been set on fire, and sat hap hazardously with one side lifted on the upside-down entertainment center, the back cushions missing. Every drawer was open and thrown across the room as if a poltergeist had come through with a fury. The contents were scattered around, littering the ground and mixed with the shards of glass from the demolished windows. My chest dropped as the realization that I had been wrong sank in. All this time, I had been chasing the wrong person, and now another council member was either in danger or dead. As much as I hated her and wished for her to be replaced on the council or for her to die, seeing the horror of the crime scene mad

When Sush’s lips pulled into a frown in a way that was demanding answers, she dropped the sheets back onto the counter and took a few steps to the left to study everything else, at which time Greg’s hand snuck in another brush - this time along her waist. Hazel had finally toned down her anxiety enough to be the fourth set of eyes she came to be, swirling her drink and assessing the redacted documents, trying to make sense of the chronology and - hopefully - finding a pattern. The silence layered, deepened like an ocean. The ruffling and flipping papers were like the hum of the underwater current - fitting and natural. So when Jade’s voice cut through the space, Hazel jumped in the high chai
