Every horror movie decision I had ever screamed at suddenly became very understandable because the moment someone tells you not to turn around— You want to turn around. My stomach heaved, bile rising in my throat, but I couldn’t look away. His face was twisted into a hideous grin, lips peeled back to bare rows of gleaming teeth sharp enough to slice through bone. Terror flooded me in cold waves, my pulse hammering so violently I thought it might shatter my ribs. But it wasn’t the teeth that undid me, it was its eyes. Those glowing, blood-red eyes brimmed with hunger, with a cruel intelligence far worse than any mindless beast. They locked onto me and held me there, helpless, drowning in the certainty of my own end.

My heart stopped, triple somersaulted, and landed somewhere near my stomach. There was no pleasant click as the final piece of my soul met hers. It clattered and rushed with fear, terror, desire, and hope. I wrapped my arms around her leatherbound waist and kept her pinned to me as she frantically licked up the blood that oozed from my collarbone.

Without haste, I chopped off his head with the cleaver in one swift move. His gore came dripping down the table to the floor. With the pair of scissors, I plucked off his pubic hairs then stuffed them into his ears. I also dismembered every single part of his body so they were all away from each other so that he looked like a jigsaw puzzle, just that in his case, he wasn't going to be fixed.
