CHAPTER 20 SOPHIA I wasn't expecting any email. It came quite late,just when I was about to shut down my laptop for the night. It read: Feature Invitation: Global Woman Magazine. I blinked. Of course,I've heard of them. The leading global publication for empowering women,sharing stories of how they rose to the top,personal growth and high-profile interviews. I'd read the stories they shared about activists,CEOs,people who thrive in different walks of life and women who have been through fire and storm and came out glowing.

This was a rare gem, I had once tried to get my hands on it, but I didn't stand a chance against the thousands of people who wished to grasp the sacred knowledge of Kianka. But here I was, the book of knowledge in hand, gifted by the beast. This felt like another dream.

“I’ll admit, this is nice. Unexpected, but nice.” We order pancakes, eggs, and coffee, and the conversation flows easily. The more I read, the quieter my thoughts became. It felt like she was talking directly to me, like she knew the invisible weight I carried, the way I’d learned to apologize for simply existing. I felt seen. I didn’t even notice how much time had passed until a gentle tap on my shoulder brought me back to reality.

I press the book to my chest and sob, rocking back and forth like a child. “You stupid girl,” I hissed at the heroine. “If I were you, I’d have saved him.
