“What have I done?” I whispered.
“What needed to be done,” Raven answered, but his voice barely reached me.
A faint groan snapped my attention. From the wreckage of a house, a young woman crawled toward the trees, auburn hair clotted with blood. I caught her scent and froze.
She was pregnant.
Her wide eyes locked on me, one hand covering her belly. “Please,” she begged, voice breaking, “my baby... don’t hurt my baby.”
