He could smell it in the air, see it all around him and almost taste it on his lips. After roughly two minutes, he got the reward for deciding to follow the path he had taken. The three hostels stood side by side like three giants leading a troop of soldiers to war. The buildings were misty in the distance but from where he was, he knew they were the building he and the other new intakes sought after. He had led them in the right path, he thought. He was sure to be a great Alpha. All he needed do was take care of Harold which his mother was on to already.

I couldn’t concentrate on my spreadsheet, and having Ambrosia on my lap while I ran my fingers through her dark hair helped calm me. She soon fell asleep in my lap and that's when I started researching Pandora's Box and The Others.

The cover creaked as I opened it, and I skimmed the index: “Darkhen,” it reads, “Page 312.” When I finally got to page 312, the text looked dense and unsettling.

Suddenly, chains shot out of the ground like vines, snaking around my body and wrapping me tight. “Hey,” I screamed as I writhed and struggled against the chains. "Fucking let go of me you fucking creep.” Thorne said nothing–just walked up to me, his hands behind his back. Standing in front of me, he tilted his head to the side and two smaller chains exploded from the floor beneath me, gripping the sides of my mouth and forcing it open. “Two thousand years," he muttered, the chains tilting to force my face to meet his. "I have been trapped in that devil-damned book by my own brother.”

I held the book beneath the lantern's glow and carefully opened it. Most of the pages were useless. Burned edges. Missing corners. Ink blurred beyond recognition. But enough remained to make me keep reading. Names. Dates. Reigns. One Alpha King after another. Some sections lasted pages. Others ended abruptly. I turned another brittle sheet. ...the nine clans... My hand stopped. Nine? I read it again. ...the nine clans... There were three. Veilborn. Ironfang. Moonshadow. There had always been three. Hadn't there?

“I want this for real not pretend. Marry me, Brianna?” Tears brimmed her eyes as she smiled. “Yes. Oh, yes. I will.” I kiss her showing my love for her as I lift her out of the chair and head up the stairs to begin our long, beautiful life together.
