“What did you just say?” Master Brooks shook his head. “Let’s wrap this up fast while I process their expulsion letters?” His hands filtered through the destitute on his desk as he reached for a file. Vernon who had been silent all along locked eyes with me, fear evident in them and my heart broke for him. He actually never cared about the sceptre and seeing how he was about to be expelled because he took on my battle— I couldn’t stomach that fact yet. Dad cleared his throat, casting a fleeting glance at me before fixing his eyes back on Brooks. “If Vernon and Miguel apologize to Flynn and the academy for breaking the rules, would they be given a lesser punishment?” His voice was calm.

“Incredible! It’s been ages since anyone in Mawi had the nerve to talk to me like that.” Wesley barked out a laugh. James snorted. “Kiran York, you’ve truly astounded us with your arrogance and ignorance.” Vernon strode up to Kiran and fixed him with a blazing stare. “Tell me, who or what do you rely on?” Cade shifted his attention to Yvonne and said in a peremptory tone, “Is it Yvonne?”

“Why was I demoted?” Ethan glanced between them before quietly exiting, shutting the door behind him. Vernon finally raised his head, his gaze piercing. “Because you’re no longer needed.” Her lips parted slightly, as if struggling to process his words. “But—” “As you may know,” Vernon continued, standing from his chair, “failures must be discarded.” He stepped closer, each movement slow and calculated. The air between them grew thick, his cold presence suffocating. “And you,” he murmured, his face just inches from hers, “have failed—miserably.”

Otherwise… it finds its way to the internet.” One of the team member’s lips curved, but there was no humor in it. “You think you’re the first man to wave a shaky piece of footage in our faces?” The manager’s expression faltered. Vernon leaned over the desk until the manager was forced back into his chair. His voice was quiet, almost pleasant. “Mr. Raymond Gray, you’ve made a very stupid assumption. You think this video is a liability and my client would be ashamed of it?” He paused, his smile sharpening. “You couldn’t be more wrong.”

As the judge read the verdict, the comments turned chaotic. [Ahhh! How could the male lead get the death penalty?] [This totally ruined my appetite. I'm out. I've no clue how the author botched this.
