My shoulders sagged in defeat. Marcus looked satisfied with my submission, patting my head like he was rewarding a well-behaved pup—just as he had during our tender moments before this nightmare began. "I've already contacted the healers at the mental hospital. In three years, I'll personally come get you. Then you'll still be my intended mate." Marcus signaled for the doctors to take me away. The mental hospital doors separated two different worlds. In the final second before those doors slammed shut, I caught sight of Victoria linking arms with Marcus, resting her head against his shoulder with possessive satisfaction, and smugly winking at me through the glass.

She sent the screenshot to her. Suzan saw it, and it was indeed on the hot search. The title of the article was: "Blood Red and Jinn are good, and happy things are coming soon." She refers to Alpha Red, also known as Jason. Jinn refers to the Jinn pack, which was as famous as the Reds. The Jinn pack had a palm called: Jinny Alpha Jinny. The pain in my chest that I felt was because she had rejected me without facing me. Normally, an Alpha shouldn’t feel pain during a rejection if it’s done face-to-face. Not having that closure only made my suffering worse. I sank onto the soft couch, surrounded by the three strong warriors who had followed me back. I could have just stayed back in the hospital. There was really no need for me to be here at the mansion.

I cut the engine and sit there a second longer than necessary. Because once I walk inside, I’m Vice President again. Not the idiot almost kissing a single mom in her hallway. I step in. Music low. She reads rooms like a profession. “Something happened,” she says quietly. I don’t answer.

I murmur. And then we just stand there, staring at each other. Jackson clears his throat. “Yeah, well. We need to move. You find that other shifter, Jer?” My smile falls away at Jackson’s words, and I turn to him before freezing. Wow. He’s like a seriously hot, built, shaggy-haired version of Jeremy. “What do you mean, hot version?” Jeremy snarls. Which is when I realize I’ve been thinking out loud. Oops.
