“Because we were best friends, and I wasn’t ready to destroy that. Because back then, he never showed interest. Not even a flicker.”
Quinn nods slowly, considering. “And now?”
“Now?” I exhale, swirling the liquid in my glass. “Now he gets this look every time I’m near another guy. The kind that’s not just jealous. The kind that’s possessive.”
“Or maybe,” Quinn says carefully, “it’s not that deep. Maybe it’s just the kind of jealousy that comes from being replaced. From losing first place.”
I lean back, snort under my breath. “Jealous as a friend doesn’t end with him naked beneath me, whispering my name like it’s the only word he remembers.”
