“Look who we have here at La Fiera. Did you get lost or something?”
Jessie stepped forward before I could respond. “No, she isn’t. She came to shop because she worked hard for it.”
Gina’s gaze shifted to Jessie, slow and assessing. “And who are you?” she asked, eyes rolling slightly.
I watched Gina carefully, searching her expression for something — recognition, a flicker of knowing. But Gina’s face was a masterpiece of composure.
“Why should I explain myself to you?” Jessie shot back. “Are you a detective now?”
