Watching his firm steps, my eyes stung.
In my last life, those same legs had climbed scaffolding to earn money for my bail, causing him to fall 30 feet. I would never forget the sight of him lying in bed, half-paralyzed, yet still comforting me and telling me not to be afraid. That pain was carved into my bones.
