I called again, moving toward the door but I got no answer. This guy is not only a nerd, he is also weird and somehow crazy. I wonder how I was going to cope with him when I joined his book club. I grabbed my phone off the table and unlocked it. As the screen popped on, messages flooded in. Group chats messages , especially the ones I've muted for a while now. ‘Arian Smith, Orleans College Book Club President, Accused of Misusing Club Funds.’ I blinked, trying to wake myself from the dream. I scrolled down, read it again and it was still the same.

“This one’s not just about desire. It’s about power… and what people let happen when they’re caught inside it.” He went quiet for a moment, eyes still fixed on the page. “And that’s a dangerous game.” Adam closed the book halfway again, but this time there was no hesitation in him, just focus. “Whoever wrote this…” he murmured, “they’ve seen some real shit.” A faint, serious look settled on his face now. “Or lived it.” He picked the book back up properly. “Alright…” he said, more to himself than anything else. “Let’s see how deep this goes.”

For the first time, something like approval flashed in his eyes. “Excellent. It makes everything much easier.” Estelle looked genuinely impressed. “That's wonderful, Isabelle.” ‘Wonderful.’ If only she knew. I forced myself to learn just to survive in that pack.
