While making my way to my room for a quick nap, I am intercepted once again by Boris, my Gamma, who has been particularly busy training the pack soldiers. "You look stressed." He observed. "Ofcourse I am stressed! I am cannot even have a rest Boris." I replied, holding both side of my head. "Well, I have news. The soldiers are training really well and I think they would be fully equipped pretty soon." Although not fully concentrated, I nodded my head and while I was about stepping into the room, a familiar scent filled my nose propelling me to turn around. "What the hell are you doing here?" I questioned, seeing the new girl with a mopping stick in her hands.

I cried, “give me your strength!” Magic flooded me, then spilled out of my hand to encircle the shield, dazzling the darkness with brilliant silver light. All eyes fell on me, and then with a yell, the attackers pushed. Not just a few men and women, but dozens bursting out from the trees, their eyes full of murder. And I stood alone. Or so I thought. A shield materialized next to mine, and I turned to find Tristan next to me, his axe shining bright. His face was smeared with blood, but he grinned. “Arm up, Born-in-Fire.” Then, louder, he cried, “Shield wall!”

“But whatever it is, we need to be prepared for it.” “Do you think it has to do with the recent attacks?”, Lucas asked. He wasn’t too sure of it, but as long as they didn’t know who attacked them and for what reason they needed to consider it. “I don’t know. I just know that we can’t let our guard down.”, Adam said firmly. Lucas nodded in agreement. “Who do you think his daughter is?”, Lucas asked them curiously. Sebastian shrugged carelessly. “What if it turned out to be Enora?”, Lucas chuckled, his suggestion sounding weird in his ears. After all, Enora was a human. Elio most definitely was not.

My children’s emotions rang clear and strong in my mind. Mama! I broke into a run toward the central warehouse, heart in my throat, moonlight still radiating around me. Matteo finished off the last attacker and fell in step right beside me, matching my pace without a word. I could feel my father and brothers drawing closer through the pack bonds — their powerful presences racing this way — but I couldn’t wait. The reinforced door stood before me, and my glowing hand pressed against it, making the moonlight surge. The wards dissolved with a low hiss, melting away like ice under the sun. With a final push, the door exploded with a heavy crash that echoed through the building.

His body shook. Costus turned away. “Call the council,” he said. “Something is going wrong.” Clara drifted off to sleep, unaware. Safe, for now. But her life was starting to change. Above her room, the air split open. A thin line of silver light appeared. And from it, a voice whispered, “Her fate has begun.”

The world froze. Immediately. Then blue light erupted from every district. Every tower. Every wall. Every street. The entire Bastion awakened. God. No. Fair. Absolutely not. Reasonable honestly. Then the city began moving. Again. Only this time— everything changed. Buildings folded inward. Roads shifted. Entire districts rotated. Then the ground split apart. Creating enormous chasms. Then the fortress voice echoed. "THE HEART OF THE BASTION OPENS." The sky cracked.

I extended my free hand out to her which she took after she ran back to me. We all walked back to where the pack members had gathered closer to the resort. "There they are!" Bastion shouted with a smile as his gaze collided with mine. He was standing in the midst of people, talking about guy stuff. He looked so small compared to Zeb as he towered over everyone with his crimson hair making him stick out like a sore thumb. Clohe quickly waddled to him and she gave him a passionate kiss that had Zeb purring like a little kitten.

“But I have to be.” He gave her a faint smile, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “You’re stronger than you think, Zoe.” They reached the top of the ridge just as the mist began to thin. Below them, nestled in the shadow of the cliffs, lay the bastion. It was a twisted structure, part fortress, part living entity, its spires clawing at the sky like monstrous talons. Dark tendrils of energy coiled around it, pulsating with a malevolence that made Zoe’s skin crawl.

“What will I do?” “I don’t know. What do you have in mind?” “Jerk! Go, buy me boba. I’ll crush your hero later.” Aiko started playing moba. She tuned up the volume to break the silence in the room. “Hmmm…Aiko, can you please get that shirt for me?” Aiko looked up at Kalli and scanned the room for the shirt he was referring to. “Oh, shit, my turret is under attack.” Aiko threw the shirt which landed on Kalli’s side.
