The words slipped out before I could stop myself, and the awkward silence that followed was thick enough to cut through. I scratched the back of my neck, trying to play it off. "The book... it would be a nice way to know more." Frank finally relented, letting out a deep sigh as he handed me one of the thicker volumes, its leather cover cracked with age. "Here. I got another book that was better than the first. Way better." He hesitated, eyes softening just a bit. "Be careful, Elliot. I'm sorry about what happened in the woods, though."

After what felt like an eternity, Wendy finally spoke again. She didn’t dramatize their past feelings, nor did she shy away from the terrible things she had done.
