One guy died last year," Simon said, his eyes shining with amusement. Harriet listened, but she didn't look scared. She was looking at her car, a simple silver Mazda. She touched it. It looked old, but she could tell it had been taken care of. The tires were good. The engine sounded smooth and strong.

Across the valley, the green cracks in the sky started to blink and fade, losing their power as Gina cut off the monster's energy source. *“Foolish mortals,”* the monster’s voice rumbled. Its green eye blinked rapidly as it felt the combined pressure of the sun and moon magic working together perfectly. *“You are just dust. Your ancestors built a cage because they were scared. I have come too far to get caught now. I walked back into the bar and straight to the bar. “Give me a whiskey on the rocks and be quick about it,” I said to the bartender.
