The Ice Wolf
Nueva had to put her hands in front of her face to protect it from dust clouds, grit grating in her teeth and leaving its dry scent in her nostrils.
Then she heard the faint sound of flapping wings. She turned towards the noise and watched the horizon drain of light. Nueva could see thousands of starlings moving in unison in an aerial dance that cast ever-changing shadows boding evil on the barren land below.
The shimmering black cloud moved fast, twisting, expanding, breaking, and reconnecting, as smooth and fluid as running water across the sky.
