“But Lyra…” “What?” I snapped, harsher than I meant. “Whatever you just gave her…” I waited, heart pounding. “I don’t think we can get it back.”

She continued, giggling in amusement and my eyes watered in despair. “Why did you come back? What do you intend to gain from doing all this to me? All I've ever done is try to be a good sister to you. I've tried to love you but you just want to get rid of me. Why?” I asked in genuine confusion, my heart sinking at the thought of her trying to mess with me again. “Because you don't deserve to be happy.” She spat, her expression changing into one of hatred. “You shouldn't even exist. I was going to return to end you as I tried to years ago. But hey, you're dying soon. Isn't that a win-win?”

he retorted. “I’m giving you the money to pay for your son, Josh. Just go in there and pay her for the ticket. I don’t want any glory and I don’t care about the money, I just don’t want to see my girl or her son upset because of it. You don’t need to pay me back, just try and keep your promises from now on. That was the first time in 15 years that she felt her mom's touch and love. Kathilyn nuzzled her face into the warmth of her mom's hand, and without saying any words her dad held her other hand. She closed her eyes to savor the moment and when she opened her eyes again, she was on her bed and it was already morning. "That was... A dream?" She sobbed hard, curling herself on the bed while recalling the moment. She knew that her parents would never be back and that was probably the last time she would meet them.

I hesitated, then asked, "So what brings you back to Los Angeles?" "Work," she answered simply. "I’ll be here for a while." I nodded, taking in the information. It had been a long time since I’d seen Vivian, and even longer since we’d had an actual conversation. But despite the years apart, she still felt familiar—like a part of the past I hadn’t completely lost. The tension in the car lessened as I focused on driving, and soon enough, Aiden started giggling in the backseat at something he saw outside.
