The world spun in a haze of stars and distant cheers as I lay there, gasping for air, but even that pain was nothing compared to the surge of unquenched desire flooding me. Something warm sprayed past my lips as I coughed, and I blinked up at the brightening sky, asking myself for what must have been the hundredth time. I needed to fight harder. I’d always known omegas were tricksters. Leaping to my feet with a snarl, the man before me barely had time to reset his stance before I drove forward. My fist buried itself in his ribs, and I swept his legs out from under him and sent him crashing onto his back.

Glass sprayed everywhere. "Down!" Kael roared. He grabbed my shoulder and shoved me toward the floorboard. I curled into a ball, my heart hammering against my ribs. "Return fire!" Kael shouted. Marcus swerved again, hard. The SUV rocked violently. Kael pulled his gun. He leaned out the broken window and fired three shots in rapid succession. *Bang. Bang. Bang.* I squeezed my eyes shut. This wasn't happening. This couldn't be happening. I was an omega. I was a nobody. People didn't shoot at nobodies.
