I couldn’t believe it. He had Beth poisoned and I had heard nothing about it. “How? Why? Who? Is..is he okay? This must’ve been the reason he had looked so pale.” Norman stopped as well, turning to face me. His face was tight, his eyes weary and I noticed for the first time just how much of a toll this ordeal had been taking on him. He seemed aged, more haggard than he had ever appeared. “He’s fine,” he said and continued. “He is getting better apart the poison was very bad and has set in too much now hence confusing his thoughts. He is all messed up in the head, his emotions are screwing with him like hell. He does not know what to believe.”

Cynthia As usual, Norman is late. The lawyers and I are waiting in the lobby for him as he strolls in, an hour late. He blinks when he sees us. "Why're you nitwits standing here? What, did Dad kick you out?" He bursts into laughter at his own joke, and I grimace at the grating sound. Even as a child, Norman was not the most attractive one of the lot. Where his personality and attitude could have made a vast difference, the ugliness inside him is always on the surface.

Instantly, the doctor had succeeded in leaving the ward as I now turned my head facing directly towards the direction where Norman was laying down peacefully on his sick bed. It was totally affirmed by the doctor that, Norman was still alive and was still breathing. But the fact still remains that, he had not yet woke up from the exact spot where he was sleeping. Norman was still very lost in his sleep as there was the need for him to make sure that he fights for his life at that particular point in time more than never before. There was literally nothing that was actually as good as that which I was actually trying to do at that particular point in time.

“High fever, as you said. Rapid pulse. But… I can’t find anything unusual.” My brow furrowed. “What do you mean, ‘nothing unusual’? She’s burning up! She’s unconscious!” “Medically speaking, Norman, there’s no infection I can detect. No signs of trauma, no fluid in her lungs, her heart sounds fine, brain activity looks normal for someone unconscious. It’s… bizarre. Like her body is in overdrive, but without a clear cause.” He shook his head, a rare look of confusion on his usually confident face. “I’ve never seen anything quite like it.”
